## What does Noir Extreme smell like?

[Noir Extreme](https://10ml.com/perfumes/tom-ford-noir-extreme) is a 2015 release, catalogued for men. Its first minutes are warm and spiced, with [saffron](https://10ml.com/notes/saffron), [nutmeg](https://10ml.com/notes/nutmeg) and [cardamom](https://10ml.com/notes/cardamom) over a brighter edge of neroli and mandarin orange. The unusual part comes next. Kulfi, a dessert note, sits with [rose](https://10ml.com/notes/rose), mastic, jasmine and [orange blossom](https://10ml.com/notes/orange-blossom). The base settles on [vanilla](https://10ml.com/notes/vanilla), [amber](https://10ml.com/notes/amber), woody notes and [sandalwood](https://10ml.com/notes/sandalwood).

Its accords run warm spicy, sweet, vanilla, woody and powdery. The kulfi and mastic are the notes to look for on a clone's list, and not every pick below names them.

## Why a decant competes here

With Noir Extreme, the gap between clone and original is smaller than the per-ml figure suggests. ## Best overall: The Extreme

The Extreme by Alexandria Fragrances is backed by three kinds of evidence, and opinion on it divides. [Alexandria says](https://alexandriauk.com/products/the-extreme) it is inspired by Noir Extreme and sells it as an extrait, listing kulfi, cardamom, nutmeg, saffron, mandarin, rose, vanilla, sandalwood and amber. That is the house speaking, but the list covers the original's spice, kulfi and rose.

Members on [Fragrantica](https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Alexandria-Fragrances/The-Extreme-49267.html) add their own comparisons. One wore Noir Extreme on one arm and The Extreme on the other, found the dry-downs very close and The Extreme much louder. A second, comparing the two the same way, finds it close but airier, less sweet and less creamy. Not every member agrees: one finds the likeness to Noir Extreme gone soon after spraying. In Fragrantica's [Noir Extreme clones thread](https://www.fragrantica.com/board/viewtopic.php?id=268113), members name it as one to try.

It suits an extrait buyer; one member found it much louder than the original, another less creamy. No EU shop showed a price for it when prices were checked. Basis: a named source, Alexandria's own claim plus members' comparisons on Fragrantica.

## Closest on the dry-down: Noir Endurance

Noir Endurance by Just Jack has a single voice behind the label, and a well-placed one. In a Fragrantica forum thread on [fragrances similar to Noir Extreme](https://www.fragrantica.com/board/viewtopic.php?id=305518), a member who owns Noir Extreme in its EDP and Parfum forms finds Just Jack's men's Noir Endurance really close, and low-priced, if you can track it down. Another member in the [clones thread](https://www.fragrantica.com/board/viewtopic.php?id=268113) names it as Just Jack's take on Noir Extreme.

No source describes its notes or its dry-down in any detail, so we cannot tell you what it changes. That is the main caveat: the label rests on one owner's verdict.

It suits a buyer who trusts that owner's judgement and is happy to hunt for a bottle. It is hard to find, and we found no EU list price. Basis: a named source, two Fragrantica forum members.

## Softer take: Odyssey Homme

Odyssey Homme by Armaf is the least expensive bottle we priced and the most-voted pairing on Parfumo. On [the comparison page](https://www.parfumo.com/compare/Armaf/odyssey-homme/vs/Tom_Ford/noir-extreme-eau-de-parfum), close to two in three voting members find it similar to Noir Extreme.

The main difference is the opening. Members on its [Fragrantica page](https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Armaf/Odyssey-Homme-64464.html) call it lighter and more approachable, close but without the dense cardamom and saffron start. One Noir Extreme owner there finds iris where the rose should be, and much more amber. In the [clones thread](https://www.fragrantica.com/board/viewtopic.php?id=268113), a member who owns both finds the dry-downs almost the same, very sweet and soft, after a cola-like opening on the Odyssey.

It suits someone who finds the original's spice too heavy and wants the sweet, soft finish for the least money. Basis: a named source, Parfumo's vote and members on Fragrantica.

## Fresher take: Select Night

Select Night by Mercedes-Benz comes from a designer house rather than a clone house, and it is here for its note list. Its [Fragrantica listing](https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Mercedes-Benz/Mercedes-Benz-Select-Night-51645.html) gives lavender, cardamom and bergamot over orange blossom, guaiac wood and cedar, then vanilla, sandalwood and patchouli. The kulfi, saffron and rose of the original are not there.

The main difference is that lavender and bergamot top, and that top explains the "fresher" label. The evidence for a likeness is mixed. On [Parfumo's comparison page](https://www.parfumo.com/compare/Mercedes_Benz/Select_Night/vs/Tom_Ford/noir-extreme-eau-de-parfum), just under half the voting members find the pair similar. In a [Fragrantica forum thread](https://www.fragrantica.com/board/viewtopic.php?id=276234) on the two, a member reports it is less similar to Noir Extreme than Odyssey Homme is.

It suits someone who wants the vanilla and sandalwood base with an aromatic start instead of the kulfi and saffron. Basis: a named source, the note list, Parfumo's vote and one forum member.

## Sweeter take: Lord

Lord by Abaco Paris lists more of the original's notes than any other clone here whose notes we could find. Its [Fragrantica listing](https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Abaco-Paris/Lord-68869.html) gives kulfi, saffron, cardamom, nutmeg, mastic, rose, jasmine, orange blossom, vanilla and sandalwood, ten of the original's notes, plus fig.

The main difference is that fig and the sweetness around it. A commenter there places Lord between Valentino Uomo Intense and Noir Extreme, and calls it sweet, cosy and powdery. The vote is less settled: on [Parfumo's comparison page](https://www.parfumo.com/compare/Abaco/lord/vs/Tom_Ford/noir-extreme-eau-de-parfum), a little over half the voting members find it similar.

It suits someone who likes the original's dessert side and does not mind fig on the list. The table has no EU price for Lord. Basis: a named source, the Fragrantica listing, one commenter and Parfumo's vote.

## Premium alternative: Baron's Choice

Baron's Choice by MonKoku is the dearest per ml of the priced clones in this guide. MonKoku sells it as an extrait de parfum. On [Parfumo's comparison page](https://www.parfumo.com/compare/monkoku/baron-s-choice/vs/Tom_Ford/noir-extreme-eau-de-parfum), 19 of 20 voting members find it similar to Noir Extreme, though that is a small group.

The only difference on record is the format, an extrait. No source we found gives its note list or a member's comparison, so beyond the vote, the record is thin.

## How to test a dupe

Give Noir Extreme a day of its own on your skin, then give the clone the following day. Check the cardamom and saffron opening, the kulfi and rose once the spice has calmed, and the vanilla and sandalwood that remain once it has settled. If a clone is much louder, as one member found The Extreme, judge it by the finish rather than the first blast.
