What does Love Don't Be Shy smell like?

Love Don't Be Shy by By Kilian opens with neroli, bergamot and pink pepper. The heart turns to orange blossom, honeysuckle and jasmine, and the base is sugar, vanilla, caramel and musk. Its accords read sweet, white floral and powdery, with a musky edge. Every clone below chases that orange blossom and marshmallow sweetness. The house describes it on its own page, Love, don't be shy, Kilian Paris.

There is also a version. Love Don't Be Shy Extreme lists neroli and bergamot on top, orange blossom and Bulgarian rose in the heart, and marshmallow, vanilla and musk underneath. Parfumo shows more than four in five voting members finding it similar to the original.

Floral Marshmallow by Dossier names marshmallow, neroli and bergamot on its own page. Then come orange blossom, honeysuckle and jasmine, and a base of amber, vanilla and musk. Most of that matches the original's list. By the lists, the Dossier base names amber where the original names sugar, caramel and labdanum.

A Fragrantica forum member finds the two very similar, with a little more liquorice note in the Dossier version. Another member who compared them finds it very close and says it performs well. Those are two reports, not a verdict on how it will smell on you.

Choose it if you want the marshmallow and orange blossom frame and a touch of liquorice does not bother you. Dossier's own page names Kilian's Love, Don't Be Shy as the perfume it follows. The reports sit in Dupes to Love Don't Be Shy? and Good, less expensive dupe of Love Don't Be Shy?.

A Fragrantica forum member who does not usually like dupes finds Caramel Overdose by Be Layered very close to Love Don't Be Shy and bought two bottles. Another member agrees. Fragrantica lists a caramel note for it, so there is no fuller note list to hold against the original. The pick rests on forum reports alone, in this thread.

An older thread adds a caution. One member there calls it the closest they have found, though less smooth. A member who owns both finds it lasts and projects better than the current Love Don't Be Shy. That is one owner's view, in Any dupe of Kilian's Love, don't be shy?.

Choose it if a close match matters more to you than a smooth finish. Wear the original first, so you know which of those two reports fits your skin.

Oriana by Parfums de Marly is a perfume in its own right, so read it as a neighbour. Parfumo's comparison page shows 441 of 568 voting members finding Oriana similar to Love Don't Be Shy. Both share marshmallow. Oriana adds raspberry, blackcurrant and cream, per Oriana vs Love Don't Be Shy.

On Oriana's Fragrantica page, commenters place it beside the original. One finds it lighter, fresher and more powdery. Another finds it a little more floral and fruitier. Several report weaker staying power. A forum member in this thread finds it mostly like Love Don't Be Shy, with a cosmetic, powdery dry-down.

Choose it if you want a lighter, fruitier and more powdery reading and can live with the staying-power reports.

Fragrantica ties Sweet Addict by Oakcha to Love Don't Be Shy. Its list gives neroli, rose, bergamot and pink pepper on top, then marshmallow, orange blossom, honeysuckle, jasmine, rose and orris. The base is vanilla, white musk, labdanum and civet. Oakcha's own page names Kilian's Love, Don't be Shy as its inspiration and sells it as an extrait de parfum.

The comments on Sweet Addict's Fragrantica page pull in a different direction from the original. Several commenters find the opening spicier and smokier, with pink pepper and an incense-like edge. One finds that an animalic musk carries most of the wear.

Choose it if you want the pink pepper and musk to lead. Not every commenter reads it as a close match, so try the original beside it before you buy a bottle.

Commenters on Perdizione's Fragrantica page compare Perdizione by Nobile 1942 with Love Don't Be Shy and disagree on the details. One finds it more natural, green and bright, with a stronger herbal and citrus side. Another finds it airier and more aromatic once its lavender shows. A third calls it a slightly more grown-up, more floral take on the same orange blossom.

Parfumo's comparison page shows 39 of 67 voting members finding Perdizione similar. It classes Perdizione as sweet, floral, creamy, powdery, fruity and citrus, where it classes the original as sweet and gourmand. A forum member who owns Perdizione finds it smells similar, with the original more gourmand and Perdizione more floral, in this thread.

Choose it if the gourmand side of the original is the part you want less of.

Guimauve de Noël 31 by Parle Moi de Parfum gets a clear reading from commenters who know Love Don't Be Shy. On its Fragrantica page they call it a toned-down, chilled-out version: softer, less thick and not as sweet, with the marshmallow sweetness turned down. Others find it lighter with little projection, and some see no real resemblance.

A forum member finds it less candy-like than the original, with more orange blossom, and prefers it. That is one preference, in Any dupe of Kilian's Love, don't be shy?.

Choose it if the original is too sweet for you. Skip it if you want the full marshmallow, since that is the part commenters say it turns down.

What every clone gets wrong

Going by the published lists, no clone here names every note of the original. Dossier's list has no caramel, civet or labdanum. Sweet Addict's Fragrantica list has no caramel, sugar or coriander. Oriana adds raspberry, blackcurrant and cream, and Perdizione's commenters mention lavender.

Staying power is where the reports split. Several of Oriana's commenters say weaker, one Caramel Overdose owner says stronger. A list tells you what is in the bottle, not how the base settles on you.

Sweet white florals you can try in 3ml

Yum Boujee Marshmallow by Kayali pairs marshmallow with strawberry and coconut over whipped cream, sugar and vanilla.

How to test a Love Don't Be Shy clone against the original

Test on skin, not on paper. Paper holds the opening and hides how the vanilla, caramel and musk settle on you.

Wear the original one day and a clone the next, sprayed on your wrist both times. Judge each late in the day, once it has settled. Note whether the sugar stays sweet or turns powdery, and whether you want a second spray. A Kilian Love Don't Be Shy dupe is only worth a full bottle if it still convinces you on the second try.

Start with a 3ml decant of Love Don't Be Shy: about 60 sprays, plenty to wear it a few times.
