Pistachio perfumes: eight to try, from green to gourmand

What pistachio smells like in perfume

Think of the nut itself before it is roasted or sugared. There is a soft green edge, a buttery roundness and a faint hint of salt. Push it towards citrus and leaves and it turns fresh and outdoorsy. Push it towards cream, sugar and spice and it becomes a pastry-shop scent.

That split is why pistachio is hard to buy on a description alone. Two bottles can list the same nut in their notes and still sit at opposite ends of the shelf: one for a hot afternoon, the other for a winter night. The groups below follow that split, from the lightest pistachio to the darkest.

Pistachio is also a newer arrival than most notes we cover. Four of the eight perfumes here launched in 2023 or later, and new notes are exactly the ones worth wearing for a week before you commit.

Green and fresh pistachio

This is pistachio as part of a garden: bright, leafy and easy to wear in the heat.

Un Jardin à Cythère by Hermès

Un Jardin à Cythère is a short, clear list of notes: citrus and pistachio up front, with olive tree beside them. The nut reads fresh here, more like a shelled pistachio in the sun than anything sweet, and the woody, nutty accords keep it grounded. It launched in 2023 and is sold as unisex. On longevity, most community voters settle on moderate. The season votes put it in the warm months, worn by day.

Un Jardin en Méditerranée by Hermès

Un Jardin en Méditerranée is the older garden, from 2003. Bergamot, lemon and mandarin orange open it, orange blossom and white oleander follow, and the base holds fig leaf, red cedar, juniper, cypress, musk and pistachio. Here the pistachio is a quiet background note, softening the green wood rather than leading. Most community voters put its sillage at moderate, which suits the office. In the votes, summer is its season.

Sunny and floral pistachio

In these two, pistachio opens a bright floral heart and a warm, creamy base. It is the note you smell first, before the flowers arrive.

Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford

Soleil Blanc starts with pistachio, bergamot, cardamom and pink pepper. Tuberose, ylang-ylang and jasmine make up the heart, and the base is amber, tonka bean, benzoin and coconut. Think warm skin at the beach: nutty, floral and a little sweet. It launched in 2016 and is presented as a women's perfume. For longevity, most community voters choose moderate. Voters mostly keep it for summer, by day and into the evening.

Eau de Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford

Eau de Soleil Blanc came in 2018 as the airier, unisex version. Bergamot, cardamom, neroli, pink pepper and pistachio open it, galbanum brings a green snap to jasmine, orange blossom, tuberose and ylang-ylang, and amber, benzoin, tonka bean and vanilla sit beneath. Most community voters call its sillage moderate. The season votes favour summer and spring, in daylight.

Sweet and gourmand pistachio

This is the pistachio of ice cream and pastry counters, and the style that has put the note on so many wish lists.

Yum Pistachio Gelato | 33 by Kayali

Yum Pistachio Gelato | 33 is the sweetest pistachio here. Pistachio, ice cream, hazelnut, rum, bergamot and cardamom open it. Pear, white peach, raspberry, peony, jasmine, geranium and lily-of-the-valley follow, and whipped cream, marshmallow, cotton candy, loukhoum, cacao, tonka bean, sandalwood and cedar finish it. The perfumers credited are Olivier Cresp and Sébastien Cresp. In community votes its sillage leans strong, so start light. Winter and autumn top its season votes.

Latte Pistachio by New Notes

Latte Pistachio swaps dessert for something closer to a warm, milky drink. Lemon, orange and pistachio open it, cardamom, coriander and milk warm the heart, and amber, musk and sandalwood keep the dry-down soft. It is an Extrait de Parfum from 2025, sold as unisex, and creamier than it is sugary. Its longevity votes lean towards long lasting. Voters reach for it most in the colder months, winter and autumn.

Dark and spiced pistachio

The newest direction: pistachio set against earthy patchouli, spice and leather, for evenings and cold weather.

Angel Stellar by Mugler

Angel Stellar keeps to three notes: bergamot on top, pistachio in the heart and patchouli in the base. Its accords run woody, earthy and balsamic, so the nut sits inside something deep rather than sweet. It launched in 2025 as a women's perfume. The longevity votes for it lean long lasting. Autumn and winter evenings are where voters place it.

Fortuitous Finley by Penhaligon's

Fortuitous Finley is the most unusual pistachio on this list. Black pepper and cardamom open it, matcha, pistachio and salt form the heart, and leather, patchouli and violet leaf close it. The salt and matcha push the pistachio towards savoury and green, while the leather gives it weight. It is an eau de parfum from 2025, presented as a men's scent. A clear majority of community voters call its longevity long lasting. Its sillage votes, meanwhile, lean strong.

How to choose a pistachio perfume

• Start with the season. The two gardens and the two Soleil Blanc scents are the ones voters reach for in warm weather. The gourmands and the dark, spiced pair are autumn and winter perfumes.
• Decide how sweet you want it. If dessert notes tire you quickly, begin with the green style. If you already love sweet perfume, the gourmand pair is the obvious test.
• Watch the dose. The sweeter and spicier pistachios carry further, so start with less and add if you need to.

Wear it before you buy the bottle

Pistachio is a note people tend to meet through a photo or a friend's recommendation, not a perfume counter. That makes it a blind buy by default, and a young note gives you little to go on. So let your skin decide.

1. Pick one from each end. A green pistachio and a gourmand one show you both sides of the note. Each 3ml holds around 60 sprays, so you can live with both for several days.
2. Judge it after lunch. Pistachio often shows in the opening, then settles into the wood, musk or cream beneath, so decide on how it smells hours later.
