What does Althaïr smell like?

Althaïr by Parfums de Marly launched in 2023 and is listed for men. It opens with cinnamon, cardamom, orange blossom and bergamot. The heart holds Bourbon vanilla and elemi. The base is praline, musk, Ambroxan, guaiac wood, tonka and candied almond, and the listed accord is woody.

Its listed notes are spiced and nutty, so a good clone needs more than vanilla. You are looking for the cinnamon and orange blossom start, then the praline and guaiac wood underneath.

Althaïr or Althaïr Exclusif?

Althaïr Exclusif is a separate perfume from 2026, so check which one you mean when you shop for a match for Althaïr. It adds saffron and amaretto to the Bourbon vanilla, and the list shows no tonka, elemi or candied almond. The members behind the votes below compared each clone with the 2023 Althaïr.

Liquid Brun by French Avenue leads this guide because of the size of the vote. On Parfumo's comparison page, 1036 of 1075 voting members rate Liquid Brun similar to Althaïr, by far the largest vote of any clone here.

Both perfumes list orange blossom, cinnamon and bergamot, Bourbon vanilla and elemi, and praline, guaiac wood and musk. That is most of the Althaïr frame. We only have the shared notes, so we cannot tell you what Liquid Brun changes.

Choose it if you want the clone with the largest body of member opinion behind it.

Island Vanilla Dunes by Khadlaj has the lowest bottle price of the six; the table on this page shows it with the date we checked. Parfumo's comparison page shows 65 of 78 voting members calling it similar to Althaïr.

Both list cinnamon and bergamot, orange blossom and guaiac wood, and praline and musk. The same page lists cardamom, vanilla, a bourbon-whiskey note and amber as Island Vanilla Dunes additions.

It suits you if the budget decides and you accept a note list that adds a whiskey note and amber.

Monarque by Armaf comes from the Lion's Club line. Parfumo's comparison page shows 33 of 39 voting members calling it similar to Althaïr. That is a small sample, so treat the result as a hint, not a verdict.

The shared notes are orange blossom, cinnamon, bergamot, elemi, praline, guaiac wood and musk. Monarque adds caramelised almond and tonka bean, according to the same page.

We call it the sweeter take because of those two additions. That is a reading of the note lists, not a report of how it wears. It suits you if the sweet end of the notes is what you want from a clone.

Art of Nature II by Lattafa Pride has a much bigger vote than Monarque: 309 of 332 voting Parfumo members rate it similar to Althaïr.

The two share bergamot, orange blossom, guaiac wood and musk. The difference is the opening. Art of Nature II lists apple, mandarin and frankincense, and adds rose and cedarwood.

Going by the lists, it keeps the bergamot and orange blossom and opens with apple, mandarin and frankincense. Choose it if that opening appeals to you.

Liquid Brun Limited Edition by French Avenue is a separate perfume from Liquid Brun. Parfumo's comparison page shows 144 of 166 voting members calling it similar to Althaïr.

The shared notes are orange blossom and guaiac wood. The Limited Edition also lists cardamom, lavender and citrus, rose, then tonka bean, vanilla, amber and oakmoss.

We call it darker because of the oakmoss and amber on that list, not because of any report on how it wears. It is an Extrait in a larger bottle than the others, so compare it per ml, not per bottle. The table on this page does that.

Club Black by Mercedes-Benz is a designer eau de toilette that is older than Althaïr. Treat it as a similar older scent, not as a clone made after Althaïr. 459 of 782 voting Parfumo members rate it similar, a smaller share than for any other pick here.

The two share bergamot and Ambrox. Club Black lists frankincense and jasmine over vanilla, benzoin and woods.

It suits you if you like the idea of a vanilla and woods perfume with frankincense and care less about the spiced Althaïr start.

Clone or the original in 3ml?

How to test a dupe

Spray both on your own skin, never on a card or strip.

Wear Althaïr on one day and the clone on another, on the same spot of the same wrist. Compare the start, then the base once it has settled. Ask yourself whether the clone keeps the cinnamon and orange blossom, and what it adds or leaves out.

Keep notes of what you find. Write down which clone you tried, which day you wore it, and what you noticed in the first minutes and again once it had settled. A short note beats memory when you come back to the choice a week later.
