What does Blanche smell like?

Blanche by Byredo opens on aldehydes, rose centifolia and pink pepper. Peony and violet sit in the heart, and the base rests on musk, sandalwood and blonde woods. The catalogue files it under aldehydic, floral and musky accords. Byredo's own page lists aldehyde and rose centifolia, peony and violet, musks and sandalwood: Blanche Eau de Parfum, Byredo. That sharp aldehyde top is the part a clone has to match, and the part most of them change. 10ML does not stock another concentration of Blanche, so there is one version to compare against.

Best overall: Lefko

Lefko by Korres is the clone with the broadest evidence behind it. Parfumo's comparison shows 157 of 170 voting members finding it similar to Blanche, and both list peony and musk: Lefko vs Blanche (Parfumo comparison).

On Lefko's Fragrantica page several members call it a Blanche alternative. One finds that it truly smells like Blanche, with a warm, slightly creamy dry-down. Another finds it very similar but without Blanche's sharp aldehyde top, so softer and closer to the skin. A third finds it a little sweeter and less high-pitched in the opening.

One difference is staying power. Others on that page find it shorter-lived than Blanche, and in a Fragrantica forum thread a member recommends Lefko as the alternative while finding its longevity a bit of a letdown.

Choose it if you want the Blanche idea with the sharp edge filed down, and you accept topping up later in the day.

Closest on the dry-down: Toy 2

Toy 2 by Moschino earns its slot on the dry-down. A Fragrantica member who wrote about Blanche finds it close to Toy 2 there, close enough for Toy 2 to stand in for it. That same member adds that Toy 2 opens much more apple-forward and has less sillage and longevity.

Parfumo's comparison puts the vote at 69 of 102 voting members finding Toy 2 similar to Blanche. The two share peony and sandalwood. Toy 2 opens on Granny Smith apple, magnolia and mandarin where Blanche opens on aldehydes and rose: Toy 2 vs Blanche (Parfumo comparison).

Not everyone agrees. A member on Lefko's Fragrantica page tried Toy 2 as a Blanche alternative and found it nowhere near. So treat it as a pick for the later stages of the wear, not for the opening. If you love the apple note, see the apple note page.

Lowest price: Clean Vibes

Clean Vibes by ESSNCE has the lowest bottle price in the table below. It is the lowest bottle price, not necessarily the lowest cost per ml, so check the sizes in the table.

On Clean Vibes' Fragrantica page one member who sampled it calls it a good Byredo Blanche dupe that lasts a lot longer, and another finds it very similar to Blanche. Fragrantica lists lemon, rose and pepper, then soap, peony, violet, jasmine and orange blossom, on musk, woody notes and sandalwood.

Against Blanche, that list adds lemon, soap, jasmine and orange blossom, and swaps the aldehydes for soap. Choose it if you want the clean, soapy side of the idea and a lower bottle price. The evidence here is thinner than for Lefko: two members, not a vote.

Fresher take: Silk Stone

Silk Stone by H&M is the fresher option, and that rests on a documented note difference rather than a smell verdict. Parfumo's comparison shows 41 of 44 voting members finding it similar to Blanche. Next to the shared aldehydes, peony and sandalwood it lists lemon and ozone in Silk Stone's top notes, which Blanche does not have. Members also classify Silk Stone as citrus, as well as fresh, powdery and creamy: Silk Stone vs Blanche (Parfumo comparison).

A Parfumo member who owns Blanche wore the two on opposite wrists, found them alike, and still smelled Silk Stone the next morning after Blanche had faded. A commenter places it between The Muse and Blanche: Silk Stone, member write-up (Parfumo).

Choose it if you want a brighter, citrus-edged frame around the shared aldehydes and peony. It has no EU list price, so check availability before you plan around it.

Sweeter take: Sun Bleached

Sun Bleached by Une Nuit Nomade has the weakest vote of the six, and the page says so. Parfumo's comparison shows 124 of 226 voting members finding it similar to Blanche, a split vote. Members classify it as sweet, as well as fresh, creamy and floral. It adds cardamom, bergamot, linen and myrrh around the shared sandalwood and musk: Sun Bleached vs Blanche (Parfumo comparison).

The opinions on its Fragrantica page split as well. One member finds it very similar to Blanche, with Blanche sharper and Sun Bleached a bit rounder and sweeter, while Blanche projects more. Another places it between Love-O-Matic and Blanche. A third finds it nothing like Blanche and without aldehydes.

Choose it if you find Blanche too sharp and would take a rounder, sweeter reading. It is also the dearest clone here, though still below the original's list price.

Softer take: Linen Naseem

Linen Naseem by ALQÉMI has the thinnest evidence: owner comments on its Fragrantica page, and no published note list we can quote. One member finds it without Blanche's strong aldehydes, softer, a bit more floral and more feminine, with weaker sillage and longevity. Another calls it quite a good dupe for Byredo Blanche, soapy and clean, with incense that surfaces at times.

Choose it if softness matters more than the aldehyde sparkle. It has no EU list price, and with two comments behind it, treat it as a lead to test rather than a safe pick.

What every clone gets wrong

Across the six, members' own words often point to the same change. The sharp aldehyde top is often the first thing to change: Lefko is described without it, Toy 2 swaps it for apple, Silk Stone adds lemon and ozone, and Linen Naseem is called softer. Several members also find the clones shorter-lived than Blanche.

What survives is the base. Peony, musk and sandalwood come up again and again in the lists. If that is the part of Blanche you wear it for, a clone can be a fair fit. How to test a Blanche clone against the original

Start with the original. A 3ml decant gives you about 60 sprays, enough to learn how Blanche behaves on your skin, and a 10ml decant gives about 200 if you want to wear it for weeks. A 30ml decant, about 600 sprays, is the keep size.

Then test on skin, not paper. Paper only shows the opening, and the opening is where these clones differ most. Wear Blanche on one day and a clone on another, so the two do not blur. Judge each late in the day, once it has settled.
