Toskovat'

Toskovat' is an independent Romanian perfume house based in Bucharest, built around toska — the Russian idea of a deep, often causeless spiritual longing with no clean English equivalent. Founded in 2022 by sole, self-taught perfumer David-Lev Jipa-Slivinschi, a former film student, the house approaches fragrance through storytelling and scenic design rather than classical perfumery. Jipa-Slivinschi calls the compositions “extraits de mémoire”: extrait de parfum creations intended to trigger a specific feeling or memory, not simply to smell conventionally beautiful. The result is niche perfumery that is conceptual, dark, avant-garde and provocative by design. Unconventional, polarising accords and deliberately confronting names are integral to the work, earning Toskovat' cult status within the niche community. The house has been featured in Vogue UK and The Wall Street Journal and written about by critic Luca Turin.
