What does Delina smell like?

Delina is a 2017 Parfums de Marly perfume that the house files as a fruity floral rose. It opens tart and bright: litchi and rhubarb, lifted by bergamot, with a pinch of nutmeg underneath. The heart is Turkish rose and peony, softened early by musk and vanilla, which is why it never reads as a green, dewy rose for long. The base stays light for its weight class, built on cashmeran, incense, cedar and Haitian vetiver, so the dry-down feels clean and a little powdery rather than sweet. The rhubarb matters more than its place in the pyramid suggests. It gives Delina the sour edge that stops the litchi and rose from turning into sweets, and it is the note clones most often change: sharper in some, missing in others.

Delina, Delina Exclusif and Delina La Rosée

The house has built two more perfumes on the same rose. Delina Exclusif, from 2018, is the evening version: pear and grapefruit join the litchi, and oud and incense sit beside the Turkish rose over vanilla, amber and woody notes. Delina La Rosée, from 2021, goes the other way, with watery notes, peony and white musk for a dewy morning rose.

Several clones land somewhere between the first two, which is worth knowing if you own Exclusif and find the original too light.

Delilah Pour Femme by Maison Alhambra follows the Delina sequence from the start: rhubarb, litchi and bergamot up top, then rose and peony, then a soft musky base. It is recommended in all three of the Fragrantica forum threads on Delina alternatives cited below.

The main difference: it is lighter and a little less tart. A forum member who owns both calls it easier to wear and slightly powdery, and another says it lands between Delina and Delina Exclusif. One member sums it up as good for the money but not exact, and one finds it punchier in the first minutes before settling.

Who it suits: someone who wants the Delina idea as an everyday spring and summer scent, worn freely to the office, without saving it for occasions.

Lady Diana by Alexandria Fragrances is sold by the house as inspired by Delina, and its published list is Delina's list: litchi, rhubarb, bergamot and nutmeg, Turkish rose and peony, then cashmeran, cedar, vetiver, vanilla and incense. On paper it is the fullest overlap of any pick, base included.

The main difference: the first half hour. A detailed Parfumo write-up that wore both, one on each arm, finds the rhubarb stronger in Delina at the start and Lady Diana a little spicier from the nutmeg, then finds them very close as the day goes on. On Fragrantica an owner of both finds the original smoother, with a softer cashmere feel, others find the clone sweeter, and one member finds the two very different. The house sells it at extrait strength, and it is the priciest bottle in the table.

Who it suits: the wearer who cares most about how Delina smells in the afternoon, and who will pay more for a clone that keeps the woody, musky finish.

Fatima Pink by Zimaya shares rhubarb, bergamot, nutmeg, rose, musk, vanilla and vetiver with Delina. A Parfumo member who wore the two together found them very close, with Fatima a bit fruitier and heavier on litchi.

The main difference: the fruit leans citrus. Its Fragrantica page adds grapefruit on top and jasmine in the heart, and members there describe a fruitier, more citrus-led rose; one owner of both notices a green, aromatic edge that Delina does not have, and another calls it a cousin rather than a match. Check the label when you buy: one listing sells it as an eau de parfum, while its Fragrantica page shows an extrait bottle.

Who it suits: anyone new to this kind of rose who wants to start low on price, and warm days when the pink rose idea could use more zest.

The main difference: the opening is brighter. The one in-depth Parfumo write-up on both finds Pink Rose more citrusy at first, with an almost grapefruit sparkle, and missing the light touch of powder that Delina carries. That member found it moved nearer to Delina as it dried down.

Who it suits: someone who finds Delina a little soft or powdery and wants a crisper start, for daytime in spring and summer. It is sold mainly in the US, and we found no EU list price.

The main difference: the base is warmer. Several Fragrantica members place it between Delina and Delina Exclusif; some who own both find it less refined, or more powdery. A Delina owner on Parfumo finds it catches the original's facets, with a juicy fruit opening that holds on longer.

An Equestrian Series Della by French Avenue is one of the newest bottles here. Its note list runs rhubarb, bergamot and litchi, then peony, rose and lily of the valley, then musk, vanilla and cashmere wood, which tracks Delina's opening and heart closely.

The main difference: going by the lists, the base. Incense, cedar and vetiver are not on it, where musk, vanilla and cashmere wood are, and lily of the valley joins the heart. Fewer people have written about it than about the older clones, so treat this one as a promising outline rather than a settled verdict.

Who it suits: someone who wants the pink fruit-and-rose opening over a musk-and-vanilla base, for work.

Rose 01 by Swiss Arabian keeps the rose and litchi at the centre, over musk and vanilla. Several Fragrantica members name it for Delina, and one forum thread is given over to the comparison: asked whether it is worth owning next to Delina, one member replies that it would be redundant.

The main difference: it is denser. A forum member finds it more sensual and sparkly than Delina, and warns that a plasticky musk grows as the bottle ages. It is also the highest price per ml among the clones in the table.

Who it suits: someone who wants a fuller, rosier Delina for evenings and does not mind a stronger musk.

Basis: named external source. The Fragrantica threads on Rose 01 against Delina and on the closest Delina dupe hold both comments.

A 10ml decant or a clone bottle?

At 10ML, Delina costs 40,05 € for a 10ml decant filled from the original bottle. It holds around 200 sprays: roughly two months at three a day, or most of a year if you rotate it with other perfumes. That price is higher than each of the three lowest-priced clone bottles in the table, and those hold a full 100ml, so on price per ml every clone wins by a wide margin.

What the decant buys is the part the clones move: the tart rhubarb at the top and the clean cashmeran-and-cedar finish. If you want a pink rose to spray every morning, a clone bottle is the practical buy. If you wear Delina for dinners, weddings and weekends, a 10ml decant of the original may carry you further than you expect. The two sister perfumes cost about the same: Delina Exclusif is 41,31 € and Delina La Rosée 38,25 € for the same 10ml decant. What every clone misses

Line the picks up and a pattern shows. Nearly all of them get the litchi and the rose right, because those are the loudest parts of Delina. What moves is the balance around them.

The rhubarb is the first thing to shift. It comes out sharper in some bottles, softer in others, and in Rose 01 the forum talk is about rose and musk rather than tartness. Without that sour thread the rose drifts sweeter.

The second is the finish. Delina's base is cashmeran, cedar and vetiver, which is why it dries down clean. Clones that swap in amber, benzoin or heavier musks list a warmer base, and several owners notice a musk that is louder or more synthetic than the original's.

The third is texture. The words owners use for Delina are smooth, airy and softly powdery. The words they use for the clones are punchier, sharper, sweeter or denser. None of that makes a clone bad; it tells you which way each one leans.

How to test a dupe

Clones are built to win the opening, so a blotter flatters them. Judge each one on skin, hours after you spray it.

1. Learn the original first. A 3ml decant of Delina is enough for several days of wear, so you know its afternoon before you compare anything with it.
2. Wear the clone on another day, on the same wrist, with the same number of sprays. Smell it after four hours and again after eight; weather and skin both shift a perfume.
3. Let a newly bought bottle rest for a couple of weeks before you decide. A perfume can settle after opening, and a first spray is not its final word.
4. Ask one question at the end of the day: is the tart, clean finish still there, or has it gone sweet?
