What does Météore smell like?

Météore opens on Sicilian mandarin, orange, Calabrian bergamot and three peppers: Sichuan, pink and black. The heart brings Guatemala cardamom, Indonesian nutmeg and Tunisian neroli, and the base rests on Java vetiver. Its accords are fresh, citrus and woody. Going by the list, that is a citrus-and-spice opening that settles on vetiver. Two clones below are judged against it: Shiyaaka Snow and Tokio.

Closest on the dry-down: Shiyaaka Snow

Shiyaaka Snow by Khadlaj is compared with Météore. Parfumo's comparison page shows 111 of 124 voting members finding it similar to Météore, with bergamot, mandarin, neroli, nutmeg, pink pepper and vetiver among the notes listed for both.

The main difference is in the finish, and the sources disagree. On Fragrantica, members who know Météore are split. One has never smelled a closer dupe. Another finds the dry-down is where it starts to smell like Météore, but with less depth. Another finds its dry-down muskier, more powdery and slightly sweeter than Météore's vetiver-heavy finish. Several find it not close at all.

It suits you if the opening and heart of Météore are what you want and you can live with a finish some members find has less depth. If the vetiver finish is the point for you, weigh the members who find it muskier and sweeter. The basis is Parfumo's vote plus those Fragrantica comments.

Lowest price: Tokio

Tokio by FIORE is also compared with Météore. FIORE presents Tokio as its Duftzwilling (scent twin) of Météore, built on mandarin, vetiver and pepper, and sells it as an extrait de parfum. The price table on this page shows what it costs and the date the price was checked.

This pick rests on FIORE's own statement only. We found no community comparison for it, so we cannot tell you how it wears next to Météore. The difference we can document is the note list: FIORE names three notes, while Météore's heart also lists cardamom, nutmeg and neroli, which FIORE does not name for Tokio.

It suits you if price decides and you accept that the evidence is the house's word alone. FIORE's page is the source.

What does Attrape-Rêves smell like?

Attrape-Rêves opens on bergamot, ginger and lychee. The heart holds peony, Turkish rose and cocoa, and the base is patchouli. Its accords are floral, sweet and powdery. Going by the list, it pairs a fruit-and-flower top and heart with a patchouli base. Divine and Woody Lychee are the two clones judged against it.

Best overall: Divine

Divine by Rayhaan is compared with Attrape-Rêves. It leads this guide because it has the most consistent evidence in the roundup.

Parfumo's comparison page shows 34 of 38 voting members finding Divine similar to Attrape-Rêves, with lychee, bergamot and ginger at the top, a peony heart and a patchouli base listed for both. On Divine's Fragrantica page, several members who own both call it the closest affordable alternative to Attrape-Rêves. A member on the Attrape-Rêves page says Rayhaan's Divine smells similar.

Keep the dissent in mind. Other members on Divine's Fragrantica page find it leans towards Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle, or is not close. So the main difference from Attrape-Rêves, per those members, is that lean, and not every owner reports it.

It suits you if the lychee, peony and patchouli frame is what you like about Attrape-Rêves.

Sweeter take: Woody Lychee

Woody Lychee by Dossier is compared with Attrape-Rêves. Its basis is the notes, so we describe only what the lists show, not how it smells.

Dossier presents it as its interpretation inspired by Attrape-Rêves and lists lychee, rhubarb, rose, patchouli and praline. Going by the lists, two things differ: praline, a gourmand note, is not in Attrape-Rêves's listed pyramid, and rhubarb stands where the original lists ginger.

The "sweeter" label rests on that praline. It suits you if you want to start from the lychee, rose and patchouli of Attrape-Rêves and are curious about a gourmand note on paper. For a closer match to the original's list, Divine above has more evidence behind it.

What does L'Immensité smell like?

L'Immensité opens on grapefruit, ginger and bergamot. Water notes, sage, rosemary and geranium make the heart, and the base holds ambroxan, amber and labdanum. Its accords are fresh, citrus, spicy, aquatic and woody. Going by the list, it is a bright citrus top over herbs and a warm base. The two clones below are judged on how they treat the opening and that base: Jean Lowe Immortel and Kiage 124.

Darker take: Jean Lowe Immortel

Jean Lowe Immortel by Maison Alhambra is compared with L'Immensité. Parfumo's comparison page shows 244 of 257 voting members finding it similar to L'Immensité, with grapefruit, ginger, ambroxan and labdanum listed for both.

Fragrantica lists the same pyramid as L'Immensité: ginger, grapefruit and bergamot; rosemary, water notes, sage and geranium; ambroxan, amber and labdanum. Members who know the original are split. One finds it fairly close. Others find it more herbal, woodier and a bit warmer, with the bright citrus and ginger of the opening almost gone. One finds L'Immensité juicier and fresher.

The "darker" label rests on the members who find it warmer and woodier. It suits you if you want the L'Immensité list in a warmer, more herbal register. If the juicy opening is what you love about the original, the one member who finds L'Immensité fresher is the one to heed.

Fresher take: Kiage 124

Kiage 124 by Kiage is compared with L'Immensité. Its basis is the notes. Kiage writes that it reminds the house of L'Immensité and lists grapefruit, bergamot, ginger, rosemary, sage and ambroxan.

Going by the lists, the citrus, ginger and herbs of the original are there, without the amber and labdanum of its listed base. That gap is the whole reason for the "fresher" label, and it says nothing about how Kiage 124 smells on skin. We found no community comparison for it.

It suits you if the opening and the herbs of L'Immensité matter more to you than its warm base. Kiage's page is the source.

What does Les Sables Roses smell like?

Les Sables Roses lists saffron and black pepper at the top, Bulgarian rose and Rose Centifolia in the heart, and ambergris and agarwood (oud) in the base. On paper it is a two-rose heart between a saffron-and-pepper top and an ambergris-and-oud base. Marrakesch and Kiage 118 are the two clones judged against it, and both rest on each house's own words.

Premium alternative: Marrakesch

Marrakesch by FIORE is compared with Les Sables Roses. FIORE presents it as its Duftzwilling (scent twin) of Les Sables Roses, describes smoky rose, oud and warming amber, files it as oriental and intense, and sells it as an extrait de parfum.

The "premium" label rests on that concentration and on the house's own description, not on any claim that it is better than the original. We found no community comparison. The difference we can document is in the wording: FIORE names warming amber where Les Sables Roses lists ambergris, and it does not name saffron or black pepper.

It suits you if smoky rose and oud are the part of Les Sables Roses you want to explore. FIORE's page is the source.

Softer take: Kiage 118

Kiage 118 by Kiage is compared with Les Sables Roses. Kiage writes that it reminds the house of Les Sables Roses, describes velvety rose and warm oud with a subtle spice, and lists Centifolia and Bulgarian rose, saffron and black pepper, oud and ambergris.

Every note on Kiage's list also appears on the original's list, so the documented difference is the house's own description. The "softer" label rests on Kiage's words "velvety" and "subtle spice", set against Marrakesch's smoky and intense wording. As with Marrakesch, no community comparison was found.

It suits you if you want a rose-and-oud reading that its maker calls velvety. Kiage's page is the source.

What every Louis Vuitton clone gets wrong

Across these eight, the documented gaps differ from clone to clone. One Fragrantica member finds Shiyaaka Snow's dry-down muskier, more powdery and slightly sweeter than Météore's vetiver-heavy finish. Members find Jean Lowe Immortel warmer and woodier than L'Immensité, with the bright opening almost gone. Some members find Divine leans towards Coco Mademoiselle. Kiage 124's list leaves out the amber and labdanum of L'Immensité's base.

The vote counts show how many members find a pair similar. They do not say where the pair parts ways, and for FIORE and Kiage there is no vote at all. Treat a clone as a reading of the original, and judge the finish on your own skin.

How to test a Louis Vuitton clone against the original

Wear the original first. Louis Vuitton sells Météore as sprays in two sizes and as a travel spray with four refills, according to the house's own page. We sell Météore, Attrape-Rêves, L'Immensité and Les Sables Roses as 3ml, 10ml and 30ml decants. A 3ml decant is about 60 sprays, a 10ml about 200 and a 30ml about 600. Météore starts at € 16,83 for 3ml.

Test on skin, not on paper, because the finish is where these sources disagree. Give the original one day and the clone another, and use the same wrist both times. Judge late in the day, once each has settled, and ask yourself the same question each time: is the vetiver, the lychee or the rose still there? A 3ml decant is enough for that.
