Travel-size perfume when there is no official travel size
Hand luggage allows liquids only in containers of 100 ml or less, all in one transparent resealable bag of at most 1 litre. If your perfume has no official travel size, buy it as a 10 ml or 30 ml decant (10ML sells every perfume in 10 ml from €12.60) or fill a refillable atomiser from your own bottle.
Some airports with new scanners allow more at certain checkpoints, but the 100 ml rule can still apply at other gates and on transfer, so plan for 100 ml. In checked luggage, perfume is limited to 0.5 litre per item and 2 litres per passenger in total.

The European Commission, German Federal Police (Bundespolizei) and Spanish airport operator Aena all set the same hand-luggage limit: 100 ml per container, one transparent bag of up to 1 litre per passenger. Perfume counts as a liquid. The European Commission restored the 100 ml limit from 1 September 2024 at airports that had relaxed it with new scanners. Frankfurt Airport says liquids up to 2 litres are allowed at its CT-scanner checkpoints, but the 100 ml rule still applies at some gates and on transfer, so check your departure airport.

The cabin rule: 100 ml per container
At most EU airports, liquids in hand luggage must be in containers of 100 ml or less, and all of them must fit in one clear, resealable plastic bag of about one litre. Perfume counts as a liquid.
The limit is the size of the container, not how much is left in it. A half-empty 150 ml bottle is still a 150 ml bottle.
Some airports with newer scanners accept larger containers, and the rules can change. Check your departure airport, and the one you fly home from, before you pack.
Perfume in checked luggage
Perfume is allowed in checked bags too. The dangerous-goods rules airlines follow (set by IATA) treat it as a toiletry: up to 0.5 litre per item, and up to 2 litres of toiletries per person in total. Your airline may set its own limits, so check before you pack.
Packing tips
- Keep decants in the clear bag near the top of your case, so security can see them without unpacking.
- Keep the cap on. Pressure changes in flight can push a little liquid through any spray.
- Keep perfume out of direct sun and hot cars. Heat and light wear a scent down over time.
- Bring one scent per mood, not one per day: one fresh and one warm covers most trips.
