What does Dior Homme Intense smell like?

Dior Homme Intense by Dior is a men's fragrance from 2011, and it turns on one material. A short lavender top clears the way for iris, which fills the heart alongside ambrette and a little pear. The iris reads powdery and slightly earthy, with a violet shade, while the ambrette lends it a soft, musky warmth. Kayaan Classic by Al Wataniah is the pick you will see recommended most often, and on paper it shares iris, ambrette and cedar with the original. Its Fragrantica listing gives Tuscan iris and orange on top, rose and leather in the heart, and sandalwood, ambrette, agarwood and cedar in the base.

The main difference is the structure, and it is worth saying plainly. There is no lavender, pear or vetiver on that list, so it is not the Intense's pyramid. One owner writing on the Dark Door Intense page calls Kayaan the better alternative to the plain Dior Homme rather than to the Intense. The main difference, going by the one member write-up on that page, is staying power rather than character. That member finds the scent very close to the original but reports that it projects only briefly and does not stay long on skin.

Premium alternative: Intense Homme

The Dua Brand sells Intense Homme as an extrait de parfum. The house's own page says it is inspired by an earlier formulation of Dior Homme Intense and lists iris, vanilla, vetiver, lavender, amber and Virginian cedar. That shares the lavender, iris, cedar and vetiver of the original.

The main difference, going by the lists, is the swap in the middle: vanilla and amber appear, while pear and ambrette do not. A Parfumo member who owned an earlier Dior Homme Intense finds it close, slightly bitter and sweet-spicy with powder and vanilla, with less depth than the original, and reports very long wear. No EU list price turned up for it, so its price cell in the table stays open.

What every clone gets wrong

The usual drift is sweetness. Some of these clones bring vanilla or amber into the story, by their lists or in wearers' words, and the original lists none of them. Its sweetness comes only from a touch of fruit in the heart, held down by dry wood. That is why owners so often call a clone a little sweeter.

The second argument is powder. One owner's too powdery is another's not powdery enough, and the same clone can draw both remarks. Members describe the iris in different words, such as lipstick, waxy and warmer.

One more original that 10ML stocks is often set beside Dior Homme Intense. His Confession by Lattafa, a similar original, shares the iris at its centre but wraps it in something warmer. On its Fragrantica page, members say it recalls Dior Homme Intense and Givenchy Gentleman EDP, with a thicker, sweeter vanilla that softens the iris, and another finds it sweeter and more powdery. A Parfumo member places it between Luna Rossa Black, Dior Homme Intense and Givenchy Gentleman, with a warmer iris than Dior Homme and more amber, vanilla and tonka. It suits someone who finds the original too dry and cool.
