Amouage Decision sample: test Decision and Decision 42 Man in 3ml first
An Amouage Decision sample in 3ml helps you find which of the two, Decision or Decision 42 Man, is yours. Notes, votes and a five-day plan.
In this guide
An Amouage Decision sample is the lowest-commitment way to find out whether this spicy, resinous pair suits you, because a 3ml of each lets you wear both on your own skin before you choose. 10ML sells two: Amouage Decision at €12.96 and Amouage Decision 42 Man at €13.77. Both are credited to Quentin Bisch in the catalogue. This guide sets their note lists and community votes next to each other, then gives you a five-day plan for wearing both decants before you pick one.

Decision and Decision 42 Man side by side
Decision is an Eau de Parfum from 2025. Decision 42 Man followed in 2026, and the catalogue lists it for men, where Decision is listed as unisex. The catalogue gives no concentration for the 42, so the table leaves that cell open. Everything else below comes straight from the catalogue and its community votes, which are votes and not a promise about how either one behaves on your skin.
| Detail | Decision | Decision 42 Man |
|---|---|---|
| Launch year | 2025 | 2026 |
| Concentration | Eau de Parfum | Not listed in the catalogue |
| Listed for | Unisex | Men |
| Opening | Bergamot, cardamom, pink pepper | Cardamom, cinnamon, neroli, pink pepper, bergamot |
| Heart | Incense, juniper berries, myrrh | Frankincense, pine tar, myrrh, sandalwood, juniper berry |
| Base | Cedarwood, patchouli, vanilla | Vanilla, cedarwood, patchouli, labdanum |
| Longevity vote | Most voters say long lasting, then eternal | Leans long lasting, then eternal |
| Sillage vote | Most voters say strong, then moderate | Leans strong, then enormous |
| Season vote | Fall and winter | Fall and winter |
| Time-of-day vote | Evening and night | Evening and night |
On the votes, the two are close. Both point to long wear and a strong trail, and both are voted for the cold half of the year and for evening and night. What differs is how firm the votes are. For Decision the longevity and sillage votes show a clear majority, while for the 42 they lean that way without as large a majority. The runner-up on sillage differs as well: moderate for Decision, enormous for the 42.

What the two share, and where they split
Read the lists top to bottom and the family resemblance is plain. Bergamot, cardamom and pink pepper open both, so the first minutes of each start from the same spice and citrus. Myrrh and juniper are in both hearts. Vanilla, cedarwood and patchouli close both bases. The heart carries the resin: Decision lists incense, and the 42 lists frankincense in the same place.
The split comes from what the 42 adds. Against Decision's list, it lists:
- Cinnamon and neroli in the opening, where Decision has none.
- Pine tar and sandalwood in the heart.
- Labdanum in the base.
Put another way, the 42 is the fuller list. It adds a warm spice and a floral citrus note on top, a smoky, resinous note and a wood in the heart, and a resin in the base. Decision's list is the leaner one, and the catalogue's accords for it include amber, aromatic, warm spicy, fresh spicy, woody and vanilla. The catalogue holds no accords for the 42, so for that one the note list is the whole picture.
If you like a short list you can follow from start to finish, begin with Decision. If you enjoy a list with more going on, begin with the 42. The wear test below is built to settle it either way.
The five-day wear test with two 3ml decants
Skin, weather and mood all change how a scent reads, so one sniff on a card says very little. A 3ml decant gives you around 60 sprays, and the plan below wears each perfume on four of its five days. Wear each one on skin, on different days, and give it time to move from the opening to the base.
- Day one, one on each wrist. After a shower, put Decision on one wrist and the 42 on the other, and do not rub them. Note the first minutes, then the heart once the opening has faded, then whatever you can still notice in the evening.
- Day two, swap the wrists. Put the 42 where Decision was. If your preference flips, the wrist was the variable. If it holds, you have learned something real.
- Day three, Decision alone, in the evening. The votes put it in fall and winter, and in the evening and at night, so a cool evening is the fair setting. Write down the same three things.
- Day four, the 42 alone, in the same setting. Its season and time-of-day votes match Decision's, so keep everything else the same too: a cool evening, a similar outfit, a similar meal. Now the only thing that changed is the perfume.
- Day five, your real day. Wear whichever one you are leaning towards where you would actually wear it, whether that is a dinner, an office day or a night out. Ask someone who spends time near you what they noticed, then read back your notes and keep the one you wanted back on your skin.
The notes are the point: write down what changes between the opening and the base, because a perfume you tired of by the evening gives a different answer from one that came together late.
Is 3ml enough to judge them?
For a first decision, yes. The plan above wears each perfume on four days, and a 3ml holds around 60 sprays, which leaves room to try each one in more than one setting before you choose. That is the part a card or a single sniff in a shop cannot do. How long either one lasts on you is something only your own skin can show, which is one more reason to wear them rather than read about them.
What 3ml will not tell you is how the perfume feels as an everyday fixture. For that, the next step is a 10ml decant, which holds around 200 sprays, to wear for weeks. Our sample page lists the sizes, and what a perfume decant is covers how a decant is filled and what to expect.
Which one to start with
Both are voted for fall and winter and for evening and night, so the setting is not what separates them. Choose by what you enjoy in a list:
- Start with Decision if you want the leaner list: bergamot, cardamom and pink pepper over incense, juniper and myrrh, finishing on cedarwood, patchouli and vanilla. It is the Eau de Parfum from 2025, and its votes show a clear majority on both longevity and sillage.
- Start with Decision 42 Man if you want the fuller one: cinnamon and neroli in the opening, pine tar and sandalwood in the heart, and labdanum in the base. It is the newer release, from 2026.
- Wear both if you can. At €12.96 and €13.77 for a 3ml each, the two decants are all the plan above needs.
Other Amouage originals to sample next
If Decision turns out to be the right direction, these three from the same house are worth a 3ml each. For the wider range, see the Amouage house page and our guide to the best Amouage perfumes.
Interlude Man by Amouage
Pierre Negrin is the perfumer credited for Interlude Man, a 2012 release. It opens on oregano, pepper and bergamot, with incense, opoponax, amber and labdanum in the heart and agarwood, leather, sandalwood and patchouli underneath. Most community voters rate its longevity "eternal". On how far it travels, most community voters rate its sillage "enormous". Voters most often pick it for winter and fall, at night and in the evening. It is the step to take if the incense in Decision is what you want more of.
Purpose by Amouage
From 2023 and another Quentin Bisch credit, Purpose is an Eau de Parfum that opens on pimento, bergamot, olibanum and two peppers. Vetiver, papyrus, sandalwood and rose fill the heart, and suede sits among the base notes. Try it if the pepper in Decision's opening is the part you liked, and you want it drier and woodier.
Guidance by Amouage
Guidance, an Eau de Parfum launched the same year as Purpose and also by Quentin Bisch, goes sweeter and more floral, and the catalogue lists it for women. Pear and hazelnut sit over osmanthus, rose and saffron, with sandalwood, vanilla and ambergris in the base. For how it differs from its sibling, see our guide to Guidance and Guidance 46.
Prices for the decants
| Perfume | 3ml decant | 10ml decant |
|---|---|---|
| Decision | €12.96 | €37.26 |
| Decision 42 Man | €13.77 | €39.33 |
| Interlude Man | €13.77 | €39.33 |
| Purpose | €12.96 | €37.26 |
| Guidance | €15.12 | €42.93 |
A 3ml decant, around 60 sprays, is for discovering. A 10ml decant, around 200 sprays, is for wearing for weeks once one of them has earned its place. If you are weighing other houses' bottles instead, our guide to other houses' takes on Amouage covers that comparison.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I get an Amouage Decision sample before buying a bottle?
- Yes. 10ML fills Decision into a 3ml decant, around 60 sprays, for €12.96, and Decision 42 Man into a 3ml for €13.77. Wear them over several days on skin before you move to a larger size.
- Is a 3ml decant enough to judge Amouage Decision?
- For a first decision, yes. A 3ml holds around 60 sprays, which leaves room to wear it on different days, in different weather and for different occasions. For everyday wear over weeks, a 10ml decant holds around 200 sprays and costs €37.26.
- What is the difference between Amouage Decision and Decision 42 Man?
- Both list bergamot, cardamom, pink pepper, myrrh, juniper, cedarwood, patchouli and vanilla. The 42 adds cinnamon and neroli in the opening, pine tar and sandalwood in the heart, and labdanum in the base. Both are voted for fall and winter and for evening and night.
- Which should I sample first, Decision or Decision 42 Man?
- Start with Decision if you want the leaner note list, and with the 42 if you want the fuller one. Better still, wear both for five days: one on each wrist on day one, swapped on day two, each alone on days three and four, and your favourite in a real setting on day five.
- What do community votes say about Decision 42 Man?
- Community votes on its longevity lean long lasting, then eternal. On sillage they lean strong, then enormous. Community voters most often pick it for fall and winter and for evening and night wear. These are votes, not a promise about how it wears on your skin.
- Which other Amouage perfumes are worth sampling after Decision?
- Try Interlude Man for incense, leather and agarwood, Purpose for pepper and suede, or Guidance for a sweeter, floral direction. A 3ml of Purpose, for example, is €12.96.
Wear it for a week, not ten seconds.
