What does Gentle Fluidity Gold smell like?
Gentle Fluidity Gold is a 2019 unisex perfume that Francis Kurkdjian made for his own house. It starts with juniper berries, coriander and pink pepper, a dry and spiced first impression. Vanilla and musk fill the heart with nutmeg threaded through them, and the base rests on amber, sandalwood and tonka bean. Its listed accords are vanilla, amber, woody, warm spicy and musky.
The house's own page presents Gold as one half of a pair, with the coriander seed, the musks and the vanilla turned up for a warm, enveloping trail. Keep that in mind for every pick below: the question is whether the sweetness still has spice running through it.
Gold or Silver?
Maison Francis Kurkdjian gives both editions one ingredient list: juniper berries, nutmeg, coriander, musks, ambery woods and vanilla. What changes is the dose. Gold raises the coriander seed, musks and vanilla. Gentle Fluidity Silver lets the nutmeg and the ambery woods lead, under a juniper top the house likens to gin, so it comes across fresher and drier. The catalogue's tiers differ slightly: sandalwood and tonka bean appear only under Gold, geranium only under Silver.
| Tier | Gold | Silver |
|---|---|---|
| Top | Juniper berries, coriander, pink pepper | Juniper berries, coriander, pink pepper |
| Heart | Vanilla, musk, nutmeg | Nutmeg, white musk, geranium |
| Base | Amber, sandalwood, tonka bean | Amber, woody notes, vanilla |
| Accords listed | Vanilla, amber, woody, warm spicy, musky | Aromatic, woody, fresh spicy, musky, amber |
Not sure which edition you are after? Order a second sample: a 3ml of Silver is €15.48. Its clones are a different set, covered in our Gentle Fluidity Silver dupes guide.

Best overall: Barakkat Gentle Gold
Barakkat Gentle Gold by Fragrance World leads on the reports of Fragrantica members who know both. On its Fragrantica page, members familiar with Gentle Fluidity Gold find it very close. One who owns both could not find a difference.
The main difference is finish, and patience. Another member who wore the two on skin finds Gentle Gold close but less refined. A third only found it close after resting the bottle for months, which is worth knowing before you judge a fresh one.
It suits someone who wants Gold's vanilla and musk warmth in a 100ml bottle to spray without rationing, and who can live with a less polished edge. Basis: a named source, backed up on a Fragrantica forum thread about whether Gold is worth its price, where members name Gentle Gold as the budget clone to buy instead of Velvet Gold.

Closest on the dry-down: Velvet Gold
Velvet Gold by Orientica holds this slot on one owner's detailed account. A Parfumo member who owns both, in a write-up on Velvet Gold, finds it a little more animalic and powdery at first, and its dry-down hard to tell apart from Gentle Fluidity Gold. The two also share a Parfumo comparison page.
The main difference is the start, and opinion splits on what follows. On its Fragrantica page, one member who compared them for a week finds Velvet Gold close but sweeter, with caramel. Others there find it louder, with an animalic note that Gold does not have.
It suits someone who judges Gold by where it ends up, and who will accept a more animalic, powdery opening on the way. Basis: a named source, one Parfumo owner's write-up and the split among Fragrantica members.

Sweeter take: Gold Fluid
Gold Fluid by The Dua Brand shares a long run of listed notes with Gold. Parfumo's comparison page shows coriander, nutmeg, juniper berry, musk, vanilla and woods on both lists, and Dua's own page says it is inspired by Gentle Fluidity Gold.
The main difference is sugar, though only one voice says so. A buyer on Dua's page prefers Gold Fluid for being a little sweeter. Another buyer there pulls the other way and finds the original softer and smoother.
It suits someone drawn to the vanilla side of Gold who would trade some of its softness for a touch more sweetness. The basis is a named source: Parfumo's comparison plus two buyer comments on Dua's page.

Fresher take: Kalon
Kalon by Oakcha is listed on Fragrantica as inspired by Gentle Fluidity Gold. Parfumo's comparison page rates the two quite similar and lists vanilla, musk, juniper berry, coriander seed and nutmeg in both.
The main difference is where the weight sits. Fragrantica members find more juniper and spice in Kalon than in the softer original, with the vanilla pushed into the background. One of them finds it the most different of the clones they tried, so expect a looser match.
It suits someone who likes Gold's spiced opening best and finds its vanilla heart a little too cosy. Basis: a named source, the two database pages above.

Softer take: Tender Fluency Gold
Tender Fluency Gold by ALT. Fragrances is presented by its house as inspired by Gentle Fluidity Gold, and described as an airy vanilla with creamy musks, juniper berries and coriander.
The main difference is volume. Members on its Fragrantica page describe a soft, musky, lightly powdery scent that stays subtle on skin. One finds it close enough to the original to layer the two. An owner of the original disagrees, and finds it more synthetic, with a sharper wood note.
It suits someone who wants the musk and vanilla kept near the skin, for an office or a shared room. ALT's own description and the Fragrantica comments are the basis here, both named sources.

Premium alternative: Roses Vanille
Roses Vanille by Mancera is not a clone. It is an established house's own rose and vanilla perfume, and on Parfumo's comparison page about half the voting members find it similar to Gold. Of the three bottles we could price in euros, it carries the highest price.
The main difference is the rose, which Gold does not list. A Fragrantica member who owns Roses Vanille, writing on Velvet Gold's page, calls it and Gold sister scents in one rose-vanilla family, and says people who know both can tell them apart.
It suits someone who would rather own a perfume in its own right than a scent built to echo Gold. Basis: a named source, that Parfumo vote plus the owner's comment.

What the clones change about Gold
The reports pull in two directions. Some clones add: one Fragrantica member gets caramel from Velvet Gold, a Parfumo owner gets an animalic edge from it, and a Dua buyer finds Gold Fluid a little sweeter. Others take away: Fragrantica members find the vanilla stepping back behind juniper and spice in Kalon, and describe Tender Fluency Gold as quiet and musky.
The other recurring word is finish. One wearer calls Gentle Gold less refined than Gold, an owner of the original finds Tender Fluency Gold more synthetic, and a buyer on Dua's page finds the original softer and smoother than Gold Fluid. Three separate voices, three different clones: smoothness is the thing to check first when you compare.
A clone bottle or a Gold decant?
Per ml, the three bottles we could price in euros all sit far below the original. Gentle Gold comes in a 100ml bottle and Velvet Gold in an 80ml one, and Roses Vanille is a 120ml bottle at the top of that range. Gold Fluid, Kalon and Tender Fluency Gold had no EU list price on the check date, so the table shows none for them. A 10ml decant of Gentle Fluidity Gold is €40.23 (€4.02/ml), while the 30ml, good for around 600 sprays, comes to €100.80 at €3.36/ml.
Per decision, the order flips. A 3ml of Gold, around 60 sprays, is €15.48, below each of those three bottle prices. That buys a week of finding out whether Gold's vanilla and musk earn a place on your shelf before any 100ml arrives. For millilitre costs across the range, open the price per ml index, and decant vs full bottle works through when each makes sense. Curious about the same house's heavier side? Our Oud Satin Mood dupes guide covers it.
Authentic perfumes that share Gold's warmth
Four originals in the catalogue overlap with part of Gold's list. Gentle Fluidity Silver is the other edition, covered above. Launched in 2020 and sold as an Extrait de Parfum, Pegasus Exclusif by Parfums de Marly has pink pepper, vanilla, amber, tonka bean and sandalwood in common with Gold, and adds bitter almond, jasmine, lavender and heliotrope. Intense Cafe by Montale puts a heart of rose and coffee on a base of vanilla, white musk and amber. Dama Bianca by Xerjoff opens on iris, kumquat and lime, passes through jasmine, lilac, lily-of-the-valley and violet, and settles on sandalwood, vanilla and white musk.
All four come as decants, so Gold and one of them can share a week before you choose.
How to test a Gentle Fluidity Gold dupe
The reports above disagree on two points: the opening, where Velvet Gold runs more animalic, and the polish, where Gentle Gold and Tender Fluency Gold are called less refined or more synthetic. So give each clone a whole day. Wear Gentle Fluidity Gold one day and the clone the next, on skin, and ask three things: is the juniper and coriander start as dry, does the vanilla stay soft rather than sugary, and does the musk sit close? Smell again in the evening, once the amber and sandalwood have settled, since that is where the Parfumo owner found Velvet Gold and Gold meet.
A 3ml gives that comparison room. Should Gold come out ahead, its 10ml decant (around 200 sprays) keeps you in it for weeks. First time with decants? Start with our decant explainer, then the blind-buy guide. For a wider choice, browse vanilla perfumes by style.
Clone or original? What to know first
- Could I live with Gentle Fluidity Gold for a week before I buy a clone bottle?
- Yes. Gold comes in 3ml, 10ml and 30ml decants at 10ML, each poured from the house's own bottle. For €15.48, the 3ml gives you around 60 sprays, enough to wear Gold on some days and a clone on the others.
- Which MFK Gentle Fluidity Gold dupe heads this guide, and why?
- Barakkat Gentle Gold by Fragrance World. Fragrantica members who know the original find it very close, members of a Fragrantica forum thread name it as the budget clone to buy, and it is the lowest-priced of the three bottles we could price in euros. One wearer finds it less refined than Gold.
- What does Velvet Gold keep from Gentle Fluidity Gold, and what does it change?
- One Parfumo owner finds its dry-down hard to tell apart from Gold's, after a start that is a little more animalic and powdery. On Fragrantica, opinion is split: one member finds it close but sweeter, with caramel, and others find it louder, with an animalic note Gold lacks.
- Is Roses Vanille by Mancera a clone of Gentle Fluidity Gold?
- No. It is Mancera's own rose and vanilla perfume, which about half of Parfumo's voters find similar to Gold. A Fragrantica member who owns it calls the two sister scents that people who know both can tell apart.
- Should I try Gentle Fluidity Gold or Silver first?
- Try both if you can, because the house builds them from one ingredient list and changes the dose. Gold leans on coriander, musks and vanilla for a warmer trail, while Silver lets nutmeg and ambery woods lead and comes across fresher and drier. A 3ml of Silver is €15.48.
- Per ml, how do the Gold clones stack up against a 10ml decant?
- Per ml, the three bottles we could price in euros all undercut the original by a wide margin. Gold as a 10ml decant is €40.23, or €4.02/ml, yet its 3ml, at €15.48, is below every one of those bottle prices.
- How long will Gentle Fluidity Gold last on my skin?
- Skin type and weather decide that more than the bottle does, so no fixed number holds. Wear the 3ml through a few ordinary days and note when the vanilla and musk fade for you.
