Quick answer
The best Nasomatto Black Afgano dupe overall is Anubis Kiss by Alexandria Fragrances, though Fragrantica members who know the original disagree on how close it gets. Cuirs by Carner Barcelona is closest on the dry-down, and Jebel Jais by FIORE has the lowest price per ml. Want the real thing? Black Afgano is €72.72 for a 10ml decant at 10ML.
You can try the original, Black Afgano, at 10ML as a 10 ml decant from €72.72, before you choose a dupe.

What does Black Afgano smell like?
The Nasomatto house presents Black Afgano as the result of a quest for temporary bliss, built to evoke hashish of the finest kind. The bottle comes with a cap of burnt oak. The notes 10ML lists are short: cannabis at the top, woody notes in the heart and oud in the base. That plain list is why clones are hard to judge. Each one reads the cannabis, wood and resin in its own way, so the differences below matter more than the shared words. Black Afgano comes in one version, so there is no concentration to choose between.

For Anubis Kiss by Alexandria Fragrances, Fragrantica lists cannabis, incense, agarwood (oud), woody notes, resin and tobacco. The house says it is inspired by Black Afgano and sells it as an extrait de parfum. Its own list adds green notes and coffee, with cannabis, resins, woodsy notes, tobacco, oud and incense.
The main difference is that the people who compare the two do not agree. Several Fragrantica members who know Black Afgano put them close. One calls it spot-on; another finds it very close, with a slightly more amped-up sweetness that this member puts down to the resin. Others disagree. One long-time Black Afgano wearer finds it more ashy and less oily and misses the fresh, oily, green-resinous part. Another finds a sharper, quite different opening that only comes together in the heart and dry-down. A third finds Black Afgano cruder, dirtier and deeper. Several find Anubis Kiss weaker in projection.
It suits you if you want the smoke, resin and oud of the original and can accept a drier or sweeter reading. Test it against the original before you commit, since the members split on the opening.

Cuirs by Carner Barcelona is an independent niche perfume from 2011, so call it an alternative rather than a clone. Fragrantica lists saffron and caraway, then violet, patchouli, Virginia cedar, sandalwood and guaiac wood, and finally agarwood (oud), leather, labdanum, tonka bean, amber, musk, cypriol and amyris. It is an eau de parfum.
Parfumo's comparison page shows 266 of 302 voting members finding Cuirs similar to Black Afgano. The same page rates the pair moderately similar and lists no notes the two share. A Fragrantica column goes further on the timing: Cuirs opens rougher, without Black Afgano's raisin-like sweetness or its coffee, with acrid smoke, a harsh leather-and-saffron accord, a hint of rosin and a hint of kerosene. Once it settles, the columnist finds it very similar to Black Afgano, only a little cleaner and more synthetic.
That makes it the pick for someone who cares about the late hours of the day more than the first spray. Expect a rough start.

Lowest price: Jebel Jais

- €45.00 · 50 ml
- Basis of comparison
- Named source
FIORE calls Jebel Jais its Duftzwilling, or scent twin, of Black Afgano. The house describes resinous cannabis smoke, earthy wood and balsamic oud, and sells it as an extrait de parfum.
The catch is that we found nothing to weigh the claim against. We found no community comparison for this one, so everything here rests on the house's own description. It has the lowest price per ml of the priced picks in the table, which is the reason for its place in this guide.
It suits you if price per ml decides and you are happy to rely on a house description. A 3ml of the original, €24.03, lets you check the direction before you spend more.

ArteOlfatto's Black Hashish is another independent niche perfume, from 2013, so treat it as an alternative. Fragrantica lists incense, green notes and labdanum; tobacco, ambergris and violet; coffee, cedar, sandalwood, labdanum and musk. One member finds some similarity to Black Afgano.
The Fragrantica column makes the difference clear. Black Hashish is smokier than Black Afgano from the very start, and the columnist picks out cannabis in it, which she does not in Black Afgano. She describes smouldering, burnt-resinous notes and burning firewood with a mineral, ambergris-like tinge, then bitter, cigarette-like tobacco and a kerosene undertone. In the base she finds it very close to Black Afgano, with its smoked oud coated in paint-and-varnish notes.
It suits you if you want more smoke and tobacco than the original gives and are comfortable with a sharp start.

Noctem Arabs by Gritti, from 2014, is an eau de parfum and, again, an independent niche perfume rather than a clone. Fragrantica lists tobacco, Virginian cedar and patchouli; agarwood (oud) and sandalwood; myrrh, musk and amber.
In the Fragrantica column it opens with a pleasant herbal freshness and no coffee, then a resinous pine note that comes close to turpentine, and plenty of unsmoked pipe tobacco. Then the woods take over. The base is an oud very similar to Black Afgano's, but muted and diluted, with a soft, dry sandalwood. The columnist calls it a cousin of Black Afgano rather than a close relative.
It suits you if the original feels heavy and you want the same oud direction with an herbal start and less depth.

Fragrantica members split on Blend Afgano by Privezarah. Fragrantica lists cannabis and green notes; resins, coffee and tobacco; oud and incense.
One member finds it resembles Black Afgano, leaning to a fizzy cola-latte and sweet patchouli. One says it only half satisfies a search for a Black Afgano clone. One finds it more basic and a lot weaker, without Black Afgano's depth or sweetness, though much closer once it dries down. Others call it light by design, or not harsh or challenging, with more resinous oud than cannabis. Several members find little or nothing in common with Black Afgano beyond smoke.
It suits you if the original is too much and you want a lighter, less demanding smoke. Do not buy it expecting the depth of the original.

What every Black Afgano clone gets wrong
None of the six is described as the same as Black Afgano. The sources point to the same weak spots instead. The opening is the first: one member finds Anubis Kiss has a sharper, different start, Cuirs a rougher one, Black Hashish a smokier one, and Noctem Arabs an herbal one. Depth is the second, since several members find Anubis Kiss weaker in projection and Blend Afgano lighter.
The base is where the best of them recover. The columnist finds Cuirs very similar once it settles, Black Hashish very close in the base, and Noctem Arabs built on a muted oud. So the opening is the hardest part of the original to match, and the dry-down the easiest. If the first spray matters most to you, wear the original.
How to test a Black Afgano dupe against the original
Spray on skin, not paper. Paper holds the smoke but cannot show how the resin and wood sit on you. Wear Black Afgano on one day and the clone on another, so the two do not blur, and judge both late in the day, once the scent has settled.
Start with a decant of the original. A 3ml decant is €24.03 and holds around 60 sprays, enough for several wears. A 10ml decant is €72.72 if you want to wear it for weeks. Our guide to dupe or original decant covers that choice, and what is a perfume decant explains how decants are filled. For buying a clone without trying it, read how to blind-buy an alternative.
If the dark woods are what draw you, 10ML also stocks three similar originals. Orto Parisi Terroni lists oriental and woody notes over amber, cedar and guaiac wood. Montale Wood and Spices lists oud and incense. Mancera Red Tobacco lists oud, incense and tobacco. For more oud, see the best oud perfumes and our oud wood dupes guide, and the dupes price list shows every clone price per ml.
Clone or original? What to know first
- Can I wear Black Afgano in 3ml or 10ml before choosing a Black Afgano dupe?
- Yes. 10ML sells Black Afgano as a 3ml decant for €24.03 or a 10ml decant for €72.72, filled from the original bottle. A 3ml decant holds around 60 sprays and a 10ml decant around 200, so you can wear it for days or weeks next to any clone.
- Which Black Afgano clone leads our ranking, and why?
- Anubis Kiss by Alexandria Fragrances, because it is the clone that members who know Black Afgano compare with it most. They split: some find it very close, others find it ashier or sharper at the start, and several find it weaker in projection.
- How close does Cuirs by Carner Barcelona get to Black Afgano?
- On Parfumo's comparison page, 266 of 302 voting members find the two similar. A Fragrantica columnist finds Cuirs rougher at the start, without Black Afgano's raisin-like sweetness or coffee, and very similar once it settles.
- What are the best perfumes like Black Afgano?
- For the same cannabis, resin and oud direction, start with Anubis Kiss, Cuirs and Jebel Jais. For a smokier take try Black Hashish, and for an herbal, fresher one try Noctem Arabs. 10ML also stocks Terroni by Orto Parisi, Wood and Spices by Montale and Red Tobacco by Mancera as similar originals.
- Is there more than one version of Black Afgano to choose from?
- No. 10ML lists a single version, so there is no concentration to pick between. Choose a size instead: a 3ml to discover it or a 10ml to wear it for weeks.
- How do Black Afgano clones compare per ml with a decant?
- The priced clone bottles in the table come in 50ml and 100ml, so they cost more at the till but less per ml. A 10ml decant of Black Afgano is €72.72 and a 3ml is €24.03, and the dupes price list in the guides shows each clone per ml.
- Which Black Afgano dupes share the original's named notes?
- 10ML lists cannabis, woody notes and oud for Black Afgano. Fragrantica lists cannabis for Anubis Kiss and Blend Afgano, and oud for Anubis Kiss, Cuirs, Noctem Arabs and Blend Afgano. FIORE describes Jebel Jais as resinous cannabis smoke with balsamic oud.
- How long does Black Afgano last on skin?
- It depends on your skin and the weather. Wear a 3ml for a few days, spraying the same spot each time, and judge it late in the day rather than by the first spray.
- Does 10ML sell dupes?
- No. 10ML sells only original perfumes. We buy our bottles from authorized EU distributors and directly from the brands, and 10ML decants every perfume itself. The dupes in this guide are other houses’ perfumes, and we don’t sell them. You can wear the original first from €24.03.
