What does Guidance 46 smell like?
Guidance 46 by Amouage launched in 2024 and is listed for women. It opens on pear, rose water, hazelnut and bitter almond, with frankincense and pink pepper giving the fruit a dry, peppery edge. The heart turns floral and warm: osmanthus, rose, saffron and jasmine sambac. Below sits a long base of woods and ambers, sandalwood, akigalawood, Georgywood and cypriol, softened by vanilla, ambrette, ambergris and labdanum. Its accords read woody, fruity, floral and nutty, finishing powdery and amber. Amouage sets out the full note list on its own page for Guidance 46.
That nutty, fruity top over a crowded woody base is what a clone has to chase. The pear and hazelnut are simple to echo; the depth of the base is not.
Guidance or Guidance 46?
Amouage sells two perfumes under this name. Guidance came first, in 2023: pear, hazelnut and olibanum on top, an osmanthus, rose, saffron and jasmine sambac heart, and sandalwood, vanilla, akigalawood, ambergris and labdanum below. Guidance 46 followed in 2024 as an Exceptional Extrait. It is not a stronger Guidance but a separate, rosier and creamier composition: it keeps that frame and adds to both the opening and the base, as set out above. What the clones leave out

None of them includes the rose water, bitter almond or pink pepper of the Guidance 46 opening, or the akigalawood, ambrette, Georgywood and cypriol in its base. Apart from akigalawood, which the earlier Guidance also lists, those are the notes that separate Guidance 46 from the earlier Guidance.
Where sources describe a difference, it tends to run in one of three directions: sweeter and fruitier (peach, coconut, red fruits), lighter, or with an extra note of its own, such as fennel. Only one member's account, for Directive 46, speaks of a close match, hard to tell apart on skin.
