In this guide

We sell only the originals. Every perfume we sell is the authentic original, decanted from the perfume house’s own bottle. We buy our bottles from authorized EU distributors and directly from the brands, and 10ML decants every perfume itself. We never sell dupes, clones or inspired-by perfumes. This guide compares the dupes other houses make of Intense Cafe, so you can choose, or wear the original first.

What does Intense Cafe smell like?

Bottle of Intense Cafe by Montale
The originalIntense CafeMontale

Intense Cafe by Montale is a rose and coffee perfume. Floral notes open it, rose and coffee form the heart, and vanilla, white musk and amber sit underneath. Its accords add powdery, musky, warm spicy and sweet to the rose, vanilla, coffee and amber. Montale's own page lists the same outline.

The coffee is the note to watch. Many clones keep the rose and the vanilla and lose the coffee, so check the notes before you choose. Rose Gourmand, Dahaab Saafi and Tanasuk list no coffee. Paris Corner Cafe Intense, Mocha Wood and Flower Cafe do.

Montale also makes a second version. Ristretto Intense Café lists coffee and Turkey red rose on top, roasted coffee beans, French rose and woodsy notes in the heart, and vanilla, caramel, amber and white musk in the base. Try it if you want more coffee. None of the clones below is judged against it.

Best overall: Rose Gourmand

Rose GourmandZaraBest overall

Rose Gourmand by Zara leads because it has the largest vote in this guide. Parfumo's comparison page shows 187 of 209 voting members finding it similar to Intense Cafe.

Both share a rose and vanilla outline. Zara lists Turkish rose, amberwood and white musk, with vanilla and tonka bean, and no coffee. That is the main difference from the original: the coffee heart is missing.

The Fragrantica page adds a dissent. One member finds Rose Gourmand very similar to Intense Cafe but notices something animalic and out of place in its dry-down. Most members compare it with other rose-vanilla perfumes rather than with Intense Cafe. Fragrantica lists rose, amber and vanilla.

Choose it if you like the rose and vanilla and do not mind losing the coffee. Skip it if the coffee is the reason you wear Intense Cafe.

Sweeter take: Dahaab Saafi

Dahaab SaafiBait Al BakhoorSweeter take

Dahaab Saafi by Bait Al Bakhoor shares the rose and vanilla. In a Fragrantica forum thread on perfumes similar to Intense Cafe, a member recommends it as very close, a little sweeter and creamier.

The main difference is the coffee. Fragrantica lists rose and vanilla, white musk and cedar, and lemon and watery notes, with no coffee. On its Fragrantica page, several members find it very close to Intense Cafe. One who owns both finds it softer, with less coffee and less projection. Another finds it closer to other rose perfumes than to Intense Cafe.

It suits you if you want a sweeter, creamier rose and can live without the coffee.

Softer take: Cafe Intense

Cafe IntenseParis CornerSofter take

Paris Corner Cafe Intense is the one to read carefully, because its name is Montale's reversed. On Fragrantica, it lists the same outline as Intense Cafe: floral notes; rose and coffee; vanilla, white musk and amber.

The main difference members mention is softness. A member who knows the Montale finds Paris Corner Cafe Intense softer, with a rose that is not as overpowering on the first spray. Another finds it settles into a smooth cappuccino base with a faint rose after a month. Only a few comments exist, so treat this as a lead rather than a verdict.

It suits you if the rose in Intense Cafe feels loud and you want the same notes turned down.

Lowest price: Tanasuk

TanasukAl HaramainLowest price

Tanasuk by Al Haramain has the lowest price per ml here; the table on this page shows the prices. Its evidence is thin. Parfumo's comparison page shows 15 of 17 voting members finding the extrait de parfum similar to Intense Cafe, a small vote.

On Fragrantica, members mostly compare Tanasuk with other rose-vanilla perfumes rather than with Intense Cafe. They describe a dry-down that settles into warm, soft vanilla and musk. Fragrantica lists rose, pomegranate and saffron; woody notes, amber and jasmine; vanilla, brown sugar and musk, and no coffee.

The main difference is again the coffee, and its list adds pomegranate and saffron at the top. It suits you if price per ml matters most and you are happy with a rose-vanilla perfume in the same family.

Darker take: Mocha Wood

Mocha WoodFragrance WorldDarker take

Mocha Wood by Fragrance World earns its label from its listed pyramid and one member. On its Fragrantica page, one member finds it smells like Intense Cafe with a more masculine twist. Another notes it is not coffee-forward. One dislikes it, finding rotting wood with some coffee.

Fragrantica lists coffee, saffron, hazelnut, rhubarb and ylang-ylang; rose, tonka bean, tobacco, sandalwood and patchouli; oud, benzoin, guaiac wood and balsam fir. That is a woodier, darker pyramid than Intense Cafe's, and the main difference from it.

It suits you if you want a rose and coffee perfume pushed towards wood and tobacco. The opinions are split, so try before you commit.

Premium alternative: Flower Cafe

Flower CafeBotanicaePremium alternative

Flower Cafe by Botanicae, a small niche house, is a different, gentler take at a higher price than the other clones. It is not a saving and not better than the original.

On Fragrantica, members who know Intense Cafe compare the two. One finds the coffee less prominent and the blend creamier and more elegant. Others call it a gentler, softer version. One finds the clove dominant, and one finds its longevity poor, which is that member's view. Fragrantica lists cloves and black pepper; rose and coffee; Madagascar vanilla, amber and musk.

Botanicae describes a wild red rose surrounded by coffee with a subtle Madagascar vanilla, and lists black pepper and clove; rose, coffee and fig; vanilla, amber and musk. The main difference is the clove and pepper. It suits you if you want rose and coffee with a spicier, softer edge.

What every Intense Cafe clone gets wrong

Going by the sources, the weak point is the coffee. Three of the six list no coffee at all. Of the three that do, Paris Corner Cafe Intense lists the same outline as Intense Cafe, Mocha Wood puts coffee among oud and tobacco, and Flower Cafe sets it beside clove.

The second gap is the dry-down. The one member who finds Rose Gourmand very similar calls its dry-down animalic and out of place, and no source found a clone close there. If you love how Intense Cafe settles, that is the part to test first. For another Montale comparison, read the Arabians Tonka dupes guide.

Rose and coffee originals to try

If you would rather stay with originals, three we stock share parts of the profile. Delox by Tiziana Terenzi lists coffee, white hyacinth and iris on top, Turkish rose, vanilla and opoponax in the heart, and white musk, amber, cedar and honey in the base. Tethys by Giardino Benessere lists vanilla, chocolate, coffee and jasmine, then Damask rose and amber, then vanilla flower, musk, patchouli and cedar. The Coveted Duchess Rose Intense by Penhaligon's centres on rose, amber and vanilla, with mandarin on top and sandalwood and musk in the base, and no coffee.

How to test an Intense Cafe clone against the original

Wear the original before you pick a clone. The 3ml decant of Intense Cafe gives around 60 sprays to discover it, the 10ml decant around 200 to wear for weeks, and the 30ml decant around 600 to keep. Montale's own shop showed Intense Cafe as temporarily unavailable on 18 October 2026.

Wear Intense Cafe on skin one day, then the clone on another day, on the same wrist. Test on skin rather than paper, because the coffee and the dry-down are the two points this guide flags.

Check the opening first for the coffee, then late in the day for the vanilla and musk. If the dry-down is what you miss, the clone is not for you. The blind-buy guide and the dupes price list help when you compare bottles.
