Vanilla Sex by Tom Ford is a Private Blend scent that launched in 2023. It opens on bitter almond, a sharp and nutty edge, then settles into a heart of vanilla with unnamed floral notes. The base comes back to vanilla twice more, once as Ultravanil, with tonka bean and sandalwood underneath. Its accords read vanilla, almond, sweet and nutty first, with fruity, powdery, floral, woody and amber facets behind them. What every clone gets wrong
The opening is the weak point. Members writing about three of the clones here mention a start that is challenging, sharp or harsh before the vanilla settles. One of those members found the original's opening harsh too, so part of this may be the style rather than the clone.
The second gap is the layered vanilla. The original lists vanilla three ways, as a heart note, as an absolute and as Ultravanil. Only one clone house, Dua, names Ultravanil on its list. The others either stop at vanilla and vanilla absolute or swap part of the stack for caramel, amber or extra flowers, which changes the balance between bitter and sweet.
