Where the powder comes from

Powder has no single ingredient. It is a feel, and different materials create it in different ways.

Heliotropin, a fragrance material named after the heliotrope flower, has a floral smell commonly likened to vanillin or cherry. In perfumery, the scent of violets is recreated with ionones, a family of aroma compounds. Orris is the root of Iris germanica and Iris pallida, and it is used as a base note. Talc in powdered form is used as baby powder, and Orphéon is the only pick here that lists it. The fifth source is sweet: the vanilla and caramel in the picks' notes.
