What does Creed Aventus smell like?

Aventus by Creed launched in 2010 and is built around one contrast: bright fruit against smoke. The opening is bergamot, black currant, apple, lemon and pink pepper, sharp and juicy. The heart brings pineapple, patchouli and Moroccan jasmine; underneath lie birch, musk, oakmoss, Ambroxan and cedarwood. The birch gives the smoky, slightly leathery edge; the pineapple gives the sweetness everyone remembers.

Aventus is also a moving target. The pages for it on Fragrantica carry years of debate about smoky batches against fruitier ones, so two people can describe one bottle of it quite differently. Keep that in mind when you read that a clone is close: close to which bottle is a fair question.

The Aventus line

Creed has built a family around the original, and none of the clones in this guide aims at the newer members. Absolu Aventus, launched in 2023, is spicier: pineapple and grapefruit with nutmeg and cloves on top, then cinnamon, cardamom and ginger in the heart. Club de Nuit Intense Man by Armaf, the Eau de Toilette, draws more comparison votes against Aventus on Parfumo than any other clone here, and most of those voters find the two similar. Its Parfumo comparison page lists pineapple, bergamot, apple, blackcurrant and lemon, then birch, jasmine and rose, then musk, ambergris, patchouli and vanilla. That is the whole pineapple-and-smoke idea, with the smoke brought forward into the heart.

The main difference is emphasis. The Parfumo community ranks it citrus first and smoky second, where Aventus comes out fresh and fruity first with smoke further down, and it adds a synthetic facet that Aventus does not show. Rose and vanilla in place of oakmoss and cedar also make the base sweeter and rounder.

It suits someone who wants the smoky side of Aventus, for evenings out or cooler days, and prefers a bold scent to a polished one. Basis: published notes on Parfumo; owners on Fragrantica's Aventus page also name it among the clones they compared with their bottles.

Softer take: Supremacy Silver

Supremacy Silver by Afnan is the quieter one: a member on Parfumo finds it close to the Aventus idea but lacking its power and depth. Parfumo lists bergamot, apple and oakmoss, then pineapple, jasmine and patchouli, then birch, musk and ambergris: the base notes Aventus lists minus the cedar, and the same pineapple in the heart.

The main difference is at the top. There is no blackcurrant, lemon or pink pepper on its list, and oakmoss moves up into the opening, so the first minutes read greener and less sparkling. The Parfumo community gives it the same six facets as Aventus, fruity, fresh, smoky, citrus, woody and spicy, but ranks smoke higher. A member on Fragrantica who owned several clones found it close yet missing the original's overall feel.

Premium alternative: Club de Nuit Intense Man Limited Edition

The Limited Edition is Armaf's parfum-strength take. It is its own composition, not a stronger Eau de Toilette. Parfumo lists pineapple, bergamot, lemon and pink pepper with lime and black pepper; jasmine, lily of the valley, freesia and rose; and cedarwood, ambergris, Ambroxan, patchouli, white musk and leather.

The main difference is the birch: it is not on the list. The smoke comes instead from a leathery base, and lime and black pepper sharpen the opening. Opinion on Fragrantica is mixed: one member says it recalls older Aventus batches, another that it sits in the same territory without smelling like Aventus.

The main difference is that pineapple is not on its list at all, and oakmoss, patchouli and saffron pull it darker and earthier. In a Fragrantica thread comparing Aventus clones, a member who owns it finds that a strong mossy note makes it lean a little more towards Nishane's Hacivat than Aventus.

The main difference is the smoke. Owners writing on Basenotes compare it directly with Aventus: one says it follows the fruitier batches with no real smoke, another that it matches the opening but lacks the smoky birch. Parfumo's community ranks it citrus and fresh first, ahead of fruit.

It suits someone who loves the first hour of Aventus and wants a light, clean version for hot days and the office. Basis: a named source, the Basenotes comparison.

Lowest price: Vibrant Leather

Vibrant Leather by Zara, the Eau de Parfum, is the lowest-priced bottle here and the loosest match. Parfumo does not publish its notes, so the comparison rests on what people say. A Basenotes forum member adds it, to a lesser extent, to a list of Aventus alternatives, and Parfumo runs a comparison page for the pair.

The main difference is depth. The Parfumo community ranks it fresh, citrus and fruity, with a leathery facet, and puts smoke last of its six. On the same page, its community scores for longevity and sillage sit below those of Aventus.

It suits someone who wants the fresh-fruity mood for casual days on a high-street budget, and treats it as a cousin rather than a stand-in. Basis: a named source, and a thin one.

What every clone gets wrong

The pineapple and the birch are the whole puzzle. Clones that keep the birch, like the Eau de Toilette and Supremacy Silver, rank smokier than Aventus in Parfumo's community profiles. Clones that do not list it get their smoke elsewhere, like the Limited Edition's leathery base, or, going by L'Aventure's owners, mostly lose it. No clone in this guide lists pineapple, blackcurrant, birch, oakmoss and cedarwood together.

The other gap is polish. Parfumo's community adds a synthetic facet to several of these clones that it does not give Aventus. On paper that is a small difference; check for it in the opening minutes, when it shows most.

Is a 10ml decant of Aventus worth it over a clone?

On a per-ml basis the original is the expensive choice by a wide margin. At 10ML the 10ml decant of Aventus costs €41.90 (€4.19/ml); the 30ml, the best value per ml, costs €119.90 (€4.00/ml). For a scent you plan to spray every single day, a 100ml clone bottle gives you the most millilitres for the money.

How to test a dupe

Smell the original and the clone on skin, on different days, rather than both wrists at once: the stronger one will drown the other. Check each at the same moments, the first ten minutes, the heart and the dry-down 4 to 8 hours later on skin. That last stage is where most clones part company with Aventus.
