What does Hypnotic Poison smell like?
Hypnotic Poison by Dior launched in 1998 as a perfume for women, and Dior's own page presents it as an Eau de Toilette. It starts soft and fruity, with coconut, plum and apricot. The heart gathers rose, Brazilian rosewood, jasmine, tuberose and lily-of-the-valley, threaded with caraway. The base is where it settles for good: vanilla and almond over sandalwood and musk. The result is sweet, nutty and a little powdery, with a balsamic warmth under the white flowers. Almond sits in the base alongside vanilla.
Which Hypnotic Poison the clones aim at

What every clone gets wrong
The owners quoted above keep landing on the same words: lighter, less complex, sweeter, more powdery. Sweet Hope fades to a faint vanilla where the Dior stays rich. Rouge Intense starts quieter. Forbidden for Woman trades complexity for sugar. The original lists fruit, white flowers and a nutty base at once, and each clone's published notes cover only part of that list.
For Rouge Intense the reported gap is in the opening; for Sweet Hope it is in the dry-down. That is why a paper strip in a shop tells you so little about any of these pairs.
The original in a decant, or a clone bottle?
Counted per ml, each clone we could price costs less than the original. Forbidden for Woman and Confetto show no price because we found no EU list price for them on the check date. A 10ml decant of Hypnotic Poison costs €26.01 (€2.60/ml). The 30ml is €62.10, which works out at €2.07/ml. If you want the almond and vanilla warmth from another original, three share part of it. Vanilla Sex by Tom Ford, from 2023, opens on bitter almond, then sets vanilla and floral notes over tonka bean and sandalwood. A 3ml is €24.21.
Rolling in Love by By Kilian, from 2019, goes milkier: almond milk and ambrette on top, iris, freesia, heliotrope, raspberry and peony in the heart, then tuberose, vanilla, tonka bean, musk, lactones and caramel. A 3ml is €20.61.
Poison Girl, also by Dior and launched in 2016, is brighter at the start with lemon and bitter orange. Damask rose, Grasse rose and orange blossom follow, over vanilla, almond, tonka bean, tolu balsam, sandalwood, cashmeran and heliotrope. A 3ml is €8.91.
How to test a dupe
Judge the pair on skin, never on paper. Wear the original one day and the clone the next, so neither colours your nose for the other. Note the opening when you spray, then come back to the same spot late in the day to judge the dry-down.
