What does Valaya smell like?

Valaya by Parfums de Marly launched in 2023 and is listed for women. It opens with a fizz of aldehydes around white peach, bergamot and mandarin orange. The heart is a clean white bouquet: orange blossom and lily-of-the-valley, filled out with Petalia, Nympheal and mahonia, and a thin line of vetiver underneath. The base is where it lingers: musk, Ambroxan, Akigalawood and vanilla, which give it a soft, powdery, musky finish rather than a heavy sweet one. The house sets out its own description on its Valaya page.

For anyone building a clone, two things carry the whole scent: the sparkle at the start and the musk at the end. The member comments quoted below keep coming back to both.

Eau de Parfum or Valaya Exclusif?

The house now sells two versions. Valaya Exclusif arrived in 2025 as an Extrait de Parfum, listed as unisex, and its note list is its own: almond, bergamot and mandarin orange on top; jasmine, orange blossom and white flowers in the heart; Akigalawood, Ambroxan, sandalwood and vanilla in the base. The almond, jasmine and sandalwood are new; the bergamot, orange blossom, Akigalawood, Ambroxan and vanilla carry over from the Eau de Parfum. The Parfumo comparison pages cited in this guide measure clones against the Eau de Parfum, though the forum thread cited for Valeria is titled after Valaya Exclusif.

1Best overall: Mystique Bouquet

Mystique Bouquet by Afnan has the widest agreement behind it. On Parfumo's comparison page, a large majority of voting members find it similar to Valaya, and the two pyramids there share white peach, bergamot, mandarin, orange blossom, vetiver, musk and vanilla. Parfumo also names it in the 'smells similar' block of its Valaya listing.

The main difference is fruit against sparkle. Members who compared both on Fragrantica find Valaya the more sparkling of the two, from its aldehydes, and Mystique Bouquet more fruity-floral, with lychee, peony and an oakmoss base that Valaya does not list. In a Fragrantica forum thread on scents like Valaya, one member finds its dry-down less musky, yet says that since finding it she no longer feels the need to own Valaya.

It suits someone who loves the peach and blossom of Valaya and would give up some of the fizz for a rounder, fruitier bouquet. One Fragrantica member calls it a very good Valaya dupe and stronger than Delilah Blanc. Basis: a named source, Parfumo's comparison and similar list, with member comments on Fragrantica.

2Closest on the dry-down: Delilah Blanc

That heading is this guide's label for its nearest pick; the members quoted below compare the whole scent, not the dry-down alone. Delilah Blanc by Maison Alhambra has the most one-sided vote of the six: on its Parfumo comparison page, nearly all voting members find it similar to Valaya. Both pyramids there list white peach, bergamot, mandarin, orange blossom, vetiver, musk and vanilla, and its Fragrantica listing sets out the same outline: bergamot, white peach and mandarin, then orange blossom and vetiver, then musk and vanilla.

The main difference is lift. Fragrantica members who have tried both clones say Delilah Blanc feels slightly closer to Valaya than Mystique Bouquet does, but the verdict is not unanimous: one finds it flatter, like a drink that has lost its fizz, and another says it does not last as long. Going by the lists, Valaya's aldehydes, Ambroxan and Akigalawood are missing from its Fragrantica pyramid.

It suits someone who wants the nearest outline of Valaya and can accept a quieter, less sparkling result. The table shows no EU price for it, because none was in stock on the check date. Basis: a named source, Parfumo's comparison, with member comments on Fragrantica.

3Lowest price: Velvet Whisper

Velvet Whisper by House of Thêom asks the least of any clone the table can price, whether you look at the bottle or at each ml. On its Parfumo comparison page, a large majority of voting members find it similar to Valaya, and the two share bergamot, mandarin, peach, orange blossom, vetiver and musk.

The main difference is the start. Velvet Whisper adds rhubarb, lily and amber to that shared list, and a member writing on its Parfumo page says it heads straight for Valaya's clean, powdery dry-down and skips the fruity opening, coming across a little flatter and more linear. Another member there calls it Valaya on a budget, and Parfumo places Valaya first in its 'smells similar' block.

It suits someone whose favourite part of Valaya is the clean, powdery finish, and who will not miss the peach at the beginning. Basis: a named source, Parfumo's comparison and member write-ups.

4Softer take: Valeria

Valeria by Verset Parfums keeps the flowers and eases off the musk. No note list is cited for it here, so the comparison rests on member descriptions. A member who owns Valaya, writing on Fragrantica, describes Valeria as Valaya with less musk and more flowers, very similar overall but shorter-lasting on her skin. In a Fragrantica forum thread, a member searching for a Valaya alternative also finds it very similar, but lacking the muskiness.

The main difference sits in the base. Alongside the lighter musk, that forum member notices a metallic accord in the dry-down. Another Fragrantica member misses Valaya's peach and picks up a light smoky edge from Akigalawood.

It suits someone who finds Valaya's musk too much and would rather the flowers led. Basis: a named source, member write-ups on Fragrantica and its forum.

5Sweeter take: Amara

Amara by Avapari has the fullest overlap on paper. Its Parfumo page lists Valaya first under 'smells similar' and gives a pyramid that tracks Valaya's closely: aldehydes, white peach, bergamot and mandarin; mahonia, lily-of-the-valley, Nympheal, orange blossom, Petalia and vetiver; Akigalawood, Ambroxan, musk and vanilla.

The main difference is the balance. Parfumo classes Amara as floral-sweet, while it classes Valaya as fresh-floral. A member on the German edition of Parfumo writes that it borrows from Valaya but reads as a scent in its own right: less linear, with greener and more citrus notes, and without the sharp synthetic clean note.

It suits someone who likes the structure of Valaya but wants it sweeter, or who finds its clean edge too sharp. Basis: a named source, Parfumo's listing and a member's write-up there.

6Premium alternative: Kiage 311

Kiage 311 is the premium pick for its stated strength, not for its price: it is not the priciest clone per ml in the table. Kiage's own page names Valaya as its inspiration, describes it as a Duftzwilling, German for scent twin, and states a fragrance-oil share above eau de parfum level. The listed notes are bergamot, mandarin and white peach; orange blossom, white flowers and vetiver; Akigalawood, Ambrofix, musk and vanilla.

The main difference, going by the lists, is what drops out and what is swapped. There are no aldehydes, Ambrofix stands where Valaya lists Ambroxan, and a general 'white flowers' replaces the lily-of-the-valley, Petalia, Nympheal and mahonia that Valaya names.

It suits someone who wants the Valaya outline in a clone its maker describes as more concentrated. Basis: the maker's own page only, so treat this as the house's claim rather than an independent one.

Where the clones fall short

Put the member comments next to the note lists and three gaps show up. The first is sparkle. Delilah Blanc and Velvet Whisper are each called flatter by one member, and neither of their cited note lists includes aldehydes, the material that gives a white floral its fizzy, lifted start.

The second is musk. Three members, across Mystique Bouquet and Valeria, find the dry-down less musky than Valaya's.

The third is the fruit at the top. One member finds Velvet Whisper skips the fruity opening, and another misses the peach in Valeria. When a clone gets the base right but loses the first bright minutes, it can feel like the ending of Valaya without the beginning.

A clone bottle, or Valaya in a small size?

Measured per ml, each clone the table can price comes in below the original. A 10ml decant of Valaya costs €39.51, which works out at €3.95/ml; the 30ml costs €94.50, or €3.15/ml. When you already know this clean floral style suits you and want to wear it generously every day, a clone gives you more volume for your money.

The picture shifts when you are still deciding whether Valaya is for you at all. The smallest size, a 3ml of around 60 sprays, is €14.31. Step up to a 10ml decant for around 200 sprays, or a 30ml for around 600. Valaya Exclusif comes as a 3ml at €16.11 if you want to wear both versions before choosing. Other houses with a clean white floral

For a clean white floral from another house, three originals share part of the picture. Fleur Narcotique by Ex Nihilo, from 2022, pairs lychee, bergamot and peach with jasmine, orange blossom and peony over musk, moss and sandalwood: the fruity-floral direction in its own right. Acne Studios by Frederic Malle, from 2024, is the one that keeps the aldehydes, with bergamot and mandarin, a heart of peach, orange blossom, lily-of-the-valley, jasmine, rose and violet, and a powdery base of sandalwood, frankincense, Iso E Super, musk, vanilla and heliotrope. Blue Talisman by Ex Nihilo, from 2023, goes fresher and woodier: pear, bergamot, mandarin orange and ginger, then orange blossom and Georgywood, then Akigalawood, musk and Ambrofix. All of them come in decant sizes, which lets you rotate a few across one fortnight before you settle.

How to test a dupe

A paper strip shows you the opening and not much else, so wear the original and the clone on skin. Put one on one day and the other on another day, rather than both at once, so neither colours how you read the other. Check each at the same points: the first spray, the heart once the top has faded, and the dry-down later in the day, once it has settled. With Valaya, watch the fizz at the start and the musk at the finish, because those are where members find the clones fall short.

A 3ml of Valaya, around 60 sprays, gives you several days to compare fairly. If the original wins, move up to a 10ml decant: around 200 sprays, enough to carry you through weeks of daily wear.
